easy and free way to fix memory leaks after OS reinstall?

i was going to suggest installing linux and breaking out windows in a virtual session, but that probably is a radical solution.

A while back I reinstalled Windows 7 and now my PC is suffering from classic memory leak symptoms
Memory leaks have much more to do with apps than with the OS.
Start with a 64-bit version of Win7 - it is much less tolerant to crappy apps...

Also, classical memory leak symptoms of WinXP don't apply to Win7.
