I wanted to know if this setup is correct to receive HD and SD Locals and the Americas top 200 package b/c dish network is telling me that all of the sd and hd channels are on the eastern arc but I heard the opposite. I heard that you can only get the HD Channels on the eastern arc or has that changed. Do you also get both hd and sd locals or do you just get one of them. I want to make sure it is setup correctly. Cincinnati Ohio 45227

Yes. The confusion may be in regards to equipment. Only HD receivers are compatible with the .4 dish, whereas both HD/SD receivers will work on the WA .2 dish. You'll still get all of your SD programming even with the .4 dish.

Even the HD channels will show up on an SD television with the .4 dish.

Thank you for the information. I already have an installation for Nov 10 to get service through you. I just wanted to make sure I could even get any SD Channel in the Eastern ARC.

Dude, you are thinking of the 1000.4 western arc setup, NOT eastern. You do not get any mpeg2 (SD) programming through a 1000.4 eastern arc setup. Refer to Matt's post higher up in this page.

True but u still receive SD only channels and the SD version of everything but locals. You just need a VIPreceiver on EA

If you are referring to just Cincinnati locals, you are correct. All other SD only and SD-HD counterparts are available on an EArc 1000.4 setup.

Correct me if I am wrong.

To summarize Eastern Arc 1000.4 dish is capable of receiving both HD and SD information?

I am considering updating to the 1000.4 EA dish but want to maintain the existing receivers(SD) and switch (SW44)that I currently have. Then update one receiver to HD while the other still runs on SD.

Thanks for the clarification.

The dish itself is capable but all of your receivers need to be VIP because all of the eastern arc is MPEG4....

Eastern Arc is Dish Pro only with MPEG4 digital compression so the SW44 won't work and only VIP receivers can handle MPEG4 compression so all your old SD receivers become boat anchors.
