Blockbuster Movie Pass Worth It?

Hi - I am about to signup for new service and from my understanding Blockbuster Movie Pass is free for 1 year with AT200 and then it's $10 a month for the next year.

My question is, is it worth it? I use Netflix sometimes during their free trial and it's a nice to have plus option of renting a game out is good as well. I believe games can be rented.

Either way, for users who have this service, is it worthwhile option to sign up for it as an add-on during the new customer signup.

As the next year would cost me $120, basically this turns out to be a $5/month price over two years.

I would appreciate input from existing users.

Thanks!

yes, IMO it is. 20 extra channels plus the home delivery was worth it for me. And if it is free for the first year, not a bad deal at all!

If its free for a year why not try it out. Worst case is you dont like it and cancel it a year later

The whole package is decent, as long as you dont expect your movies fast. BB Online is really really really slow at receiving things and getting them back out. I was a BB customer before the Movie Pass deal, and things seemed to get worse afterwards. Im back with Netflix because of it, and the streaming offering on BB sucks if you intend to use it any.

If you want any of those channels, and arent in a hurry for mailed movies, not a bad deal.

I would try it for a year, but the thing is they require 24 month commitment during sign up, if I cancel after the first year, there is a $140 termination fee.

there is no commitment on premium programming like BB movie pass or any other movie channels

The contract on keeping the Dish account active is 24 months

I would agree with others.. its not a replacement (yet) for the polish of Netflix. Its *nearly worth* 10 dollars for the 20 extra stations you get (Epix's, Palladia, etc) and the free disk by mail is a bonus.

but

BBMP as a streaming platform is horrible right now. You don't truly know which movies will be IPVOD Streamed or VOD streamed, and even if you get the "Watch Now" you won't know for sure unless you start the movie and get a Stream Quality Meter to appear with the screen banner (during playback you would press the "Cancel" button to bring up the banner and a second time to quickly clear the banner)

Additionally ... the streaming does not currently offer any "Device" unlocks. So if you had the Blockbuster streaming app on your bluray ... that would require a different activation than BBMP from Dish provides.

I also agree that since its free for the first year, you loose nothing by trying it .. you will see its roughness and over time decide if you are better off having netflix in addition to or in place of the movie pass.

Thanks I opted against it for the sole reason that after 1 year, if I decide to cancel, I would have to pay a early termination fee for the blockbuster pass. The blockbuster pass at this time require a 24 month commitment to get it for 1 year free.

Lastly, is there a number I could call to confirm the promotion I signed under, it was for $200 Amazon certificate from DISH Network

You're mis-reading the terms. Regardless of package ... you sign up now you have a 24 month commitment to dish. You cancel *ALL DISH SERVICE* after 12 months and you WILL pay an early termination fee.

You *MAY* drop or change packages at ANY TIME, however, the *current* price of packages at the time you change is what you will get billed, because changes before the end of the promotional period are billed at *then* current prices..
.
example.. you sign up now for the Everything Pack its 74.99+5 for BBMP (+taxes & any additional DVR or Receiver Fees) ...

IF .. 6 months from now you drop BBMP ... *THEN* you will revert to the full standard Everything Pack price of 104.99 ... loosing the last 6 months of the 12 month *promo* period of 74.99

In month 13 of your 24 month commitment ... your prices *will* increase to 104.99 for the everything pack, there will be a 10 dollar a month BBMP fee plus taxes, dvr, additional receiver fees.

At month 13 if you want, you drop BBMP and you're still committed for the remaining 11 months of service ... you could continue the Everything pack or you could drop down to America's 250 pack at 69.99 ... and drop BBMP ... you could do all sorts of package changes *after* the 12th month and it would be then current pricing, for the rest of your commitment period. ... the specific words to pay attention to are QUALIFYING PACKAGES ... The welcome pack.. *that* is not one of the qualifying packages..
.
As it says on that page for the amazon promotion... "With a 24-month agreement and a minimum of Americas Top 200 programming package ... for the first 12 months ..." ie.. for the first 12 months you will get "X + Y + Z" for cost "A".

The next important part .. "After applicable promotional period..." promo is the first 12 months!

BLOCKBUSTER Movie Pass (1 disc at a time): Only available with new qualifying DISH Network service activated between 10/1/11 and 1/31/12. With a 24-month agreement and minimum of America's Top 200 programming package, for the first 12 months of your subscription, you receive a bundle of Blockbuster Movie Pass for $5/mo (regularly $10/mo) and America's "Everything" Pak for $74.99/mo, America's Top 250 for $39.99/mo, America's Top 200 for $34.99/mo, or DishLATINO Max for $34.99/mo. Other qualifying packages include 3-month bundle. Promotional prices continue for applicable promotional period provided you subscribe to both components of the bundle and do not downgrade. After applicable promotional period, then-current prices apply to each component. Requires online DISH Network account for discs by mail; broadband Internet to stream content; HD DVR to stream to TV. Exchange online rentals for free in-store movie rentals at participating BLOCKBUSTER stores. Offer not available in Puerto Rico or U.S. Virgin Islands. Streaming to TV and some channels not available with select packages.

In simpler terms, at end of year one, you can cancel BBMP without any penalty of any kind. Cancelling SERVICE (dumping Dish altogether) within 24 prompts early termination fees, NOT dropping premium packages or BBMP, etc.

Hi - thanks for the input, but actually on the last page of checkout where you have to agree on terms and condition, along with the Dish Contract and HD for Life Contract, there is a third checkbox for Blockbuster Moviepass with it's own separate 24 month contract agreement, within it they have their own cancellation termination fee if you terminate prior to 24 months.

The 12 months free is only if you sign up for a 24 month contract for Blockbuster Moviepass. You can't have 12 months free and then cancel.

Thanks

On another site this is the breakdown:

(1) You can select the 3 month trial. There is no commitment to the Blockbuster Movie Pass program and you can select any of our programming packages (with a few minor exceptions).
(2) You can select the 12 month free trial. There is a 24 month commitment to the Blockbuster Movie Pass program if you select this option, and only the America's Top 200 and above qualify for this deal.

I'm still confused as to the accuracy of information.

There are some Gray areas, especially on the last link. Suggest you contact one of our Dirt members here (Dish Internet Response Team) The will give you (us) the absolute answer to the question. Go to the Forum page and look for members in RED. PM them and ask. Let me know.

The free 12 months of BBMP does require a new 24 month commitment. As a new customer, you're most likely going to be in a commitment anyways, and having the BBMP commitment won't really affect it. This offer does require the AT200 and higher, and also needs to be completed online at your dish.com account after service is activated

You can also just do a 3 month trial

Thanks Matt, so if I cancel the Blockbuster service in the 13th month, this won't have any penalty on my account right as long as I maintain the AT200 and higher package.

If that is the case, I have PM'd you to help me add it to my account as I just signed up this afternoon.

I answered this in a PM, but decided to answer publicly for anyone with the same question. Once the free 12 months of BBMP expires, you can cancel it without any penalty. The commitment is an account level commitment, and does not require that you keep the programming

Thanks...what I thought.
