is anyone doing beta tests on the Hopper/Joey set-up yet? are there going to be any beta testers for this STB? seems there was a lot of beta testing for the 922 and we all know how well that worked out........

I know we have a few members that are currently testing them (I don't know if they work for DISH or not) but they have a NDA so they can't talk about testing online.

The 922 testing was open for retailers but they did not do it with the Hopper. I would think that there would be less of a need to test it wide scale since it's similar to the 922 which had already best tested. The 922 was a pretty drastic change at the time so I think it needed a larger beta test.

We appreciate everyone's interest in the Hopper! Currently we are beta testing internally with DISH Network employees only, and do not have plans to extend testing to our customer base. The Hopper's release date has not yet been announced, but you can stay caught up with updates on this equipment by visiting Hopper - DISH Network.

I noticed in the link Ray provided the following in the PTA section:

Over three hours per night of HD primetime programming are available to you On Demand anytime for up to eight days from the initial air date.

Wouldn't that sound better as 'up to 12 hours? Heck, on Sundays it could be 16!

Why couldn't they allow us to adjust the hour range as to how many hours we can record from the locals? I know that it would reduce the number of days that the recordings would be stored but if someone has two of these Hoppers then there would be plenty more hard drive space.

If you had two hoppers you would only need PTA enabled on one of them. The other would be free to record using all three tuners, but still be able to see shows and timers recorded on the other box. Maybe in the future they can allow us to change the time period, but I think it's easier to market to people this way if you say it's 3 hours between the times of 8 to 11EST.

i'm really curious how they will actually have that setup (with two hoppers).....will they do it as you state OR will they have both Hoppers showing PTA activated - and have them be smart enough to know (since they are connected) that only one box needs to actually do the recordings.

KyDave:

In Scott's CES demo / interview it showed that PTAT could be enabled / disabled via menu. So you enable on one, disable on the second.

I am getting ready to sign up for satellite services...

Any rumors about approximate release date for Hopper... thinking of Directv based on better technology that is CURRENTLY available.
