Roku

Currently, BHN does not offer HBO/MAX GO on Roku devices. We'll let you know once we make access available through additional devices.

I am not sure i want that programming, But the issue is important to me from a freedom philosophical point of view.

It seems that this is BHN/Roadrunner blocking a specific set of packets addressed to the customer's IP address "just because we don't want you to get that stream of data." Talk about big brother! That is extremely troubling. Since when do you get to filter OUR data based on YOUR desires? I pay for something that is perfectly legal to come in over the internet pipe, and you cut it off.

Will you quote the portion of the service agreement that allows you to do that.

They are not blocking the packets. To sign up for the service you have to go through an authorization server run by BHN (or whomever your MSO is). If they will not give you the authorization to watch on a ROKU it is a no go.

Your MSO would prefer you watch on their system and not cut them out of the loop.

What is an MSO?

That's weird. Do I not sign up for the service with Roku (or who?), yet BHN has to authorize it?

Is that true of other things, like Netflix? I don't remember having to deal with BHN to get it. I had to enter a code for my Roku so that netflix could look in their system and say, yep he's a customer, then send the packets for selected movie to my IP. Where did BHN get involved other than receiving the packets through the internet from Netflix and delivering them to me once they reached the RR network?

MSO is Multi-systems operator. You sign up for the service with BHN, because you need an HBO subscription thru them to have access to the HBO GO apps that are provided by HBO, so it is the MSO's choice (in your case BHN) whether to offer you access via Roku or not.

It has nothing to do with intercepting anything so just toss that idea out of your head :) For now we are only supporting streaming via PC based products such as your laptop, desktop, tablet etc. The reason you can't watch it through your Roku is because the authentication process is not enabled for that device. We're not blocking any packets because no packets (as you call them) are being sent to begin with. I'll let you know if the status on the Roku changes down the road.

I am still trying to understand this...

if I want to get Roku and Netflix to team up and send me movies down an internet pipe into my roku box (after I pay Netflix for the service), I simply don't understand how BHN is involved, beyond providing the last part of the pipe from netflix's server to my house.

In order for you to receive HBO GO you must already be an HBO customer through your cable provider. When you sign up with HBO GO you must first authenticate with your cable provider and then it goes back to HBO GO after you are verified to currently be a HBO subscriber. The authentication process determines what devices you can use and can't use with HBO GO. We have nothing to do with the actual streaming of the product...just authentication.

Ah thanks. So the HBO GO subscription is different from Netflix because of the "must have HBO" part, and there is no similar prerequisite with getting netflix?

However, do I understand correctly, that even if you DO have HBO, you cannot get HBO GO through the roku? Or am I still confused?

Maybe still confused. :) You can get HBO GO on the Roku, but not with your TV provider.

First, separate HBO GO from everything else on Roku. Now separate who your internet provider is.
No matter who your internet provider is, while there may be limits to how much data you can stream in a month, they are not blocking programming to the Roku, that includes Roadrunner, or Charter, Fios, ATT, or whoever.

Now to get HBO GO you have to subscribe to HBO. Whoever you have for a TV provider that you get HBO from then has to have an agreement with HBO to allow you to watch HBO GO on the Roku. Most all allow you to get HBO GO on your computer or mobile device, but some do not have an agreement to allow you to sign up on the Roku for it. You have to verify you subscribe to a provider that has that agreement before you get HBO GO on the Roku. So for instance Dish Network allows you to watch on a Roku. Direct TV does not.........

Other programming for the most part is not the same on a Roku. Some is very similar. For instance to watch Amazon movies you have to have an Amazon account. But to watch Al Jeezera, or Euronews, or hundreds of other programs, you just add it and watch it.

For now we do not support the Roku device with our implementation of HBO GO.

Over the years I've checked in this site on and off maybe 10 times.
I never fail to see the constant posts of this op. Complain. complain,
complain. That is what you do. Move on, will ya?
When someone talks about philosophical cable tv freedoms, be afraid. Be very
afraid.
The time and years you put in to just this site alone. WTF is wrong with you?
You have a principal about that one brown spec on the bananas in Publix too?

He has a point.................

What do you know the Xbox 360 HBO GO app was released today. A ton of companies to choose from guess which company isn't one of them. This HBO Go lite that Brigthouse claims to offer is a joke.

There is no such thing as HBO GO Lite... nice try though.

There is HBO OD (on Demand) and HBO Go. HBO OD has a much LESS content than HBO Go. HBO OD is available directly through most cable and satellite providers. HBO Go is available (with a subscription to HBO on you cable or satellite system) via computer and many other devices DEPENDING ON THE CABLE AND SATELLITE SYSTEM.

BHN Offers both HBO On demand and HBO Go.
