Here's a question that hasn't been asked: As the Hopper system is a full HD solution, will the "$10 HD Fee" be necessary anymore, as in no longer being charged? Then they could replace the "HD Free for Life" option with "1st Joey Free for Life" instead. ;)

given the age of your set i would only give it a fifty-fifty chance of having HDCP.

in which case, you could have problems with channels that require dhcp to output at hd resolution.

Question about PTAT. If I currently have a timer for Fringe on Fox, will I still need a timer on the Hopper to have Fringe automatically move to my part of the hard drive, or is the only way to save that recording to manually move it myself?

The only way currently would be to move it manually. That will be changed in the future to allow automatic saving of PTA shows..
If you setup a timer that would use an addition tuner to record.

I'll just throw this question for DISH to see yet again, as from a purely pedestrian view, it appears Dish is completely overlooking the importance of the OTA module to at least a decent number of us. I still remember the video where Scott asked the Dish Rep at CES (sorry, forget his name as I'm typing this), and he looked like he could not have been less interested in either the question or the topic in general. Glossed over it very quickly. So...my question to DISH (I've seen Scott's response already...thanks, Scott! :))...is there ANY priority being given to the OTA tuner for the Hopper?

I like what's been shown of the Hopper/Joey to date...but will be on the sidelines until the OTA module is released.

Aside from the $99 upgrade fee for current customers, is there any installation fee? What if you have/add the protection plan?

I think the demand for an OTA module is low after they have added locals in all markets. Having a USB tuner would be just as good wouldn't it?

Until all subchannels and non-major network channels are included in the Sat-delivered locals, there will always be a significant demand for an OTA module, IMO.

Reply from Scott - Maybe for you, but in the big scope of things an overwheling majority of DISH customers do not use OTA on their receivers. (they can tell this by monitoring what people are wathing on their receivers.) And that is why OTA is a low priority for DISH. Of course for people like me and you we want it to be a high priority item. :)

will hopper conect into my dp44 switch or will I need all new wireing also will hoper/joey have srs truvolum like my 722k does

(Answer from Scott - Yes the wiring digrams show you could use it with a switch, but since this can replace everything why keep another point of failure in the middle :))

This is a slightly different question than one I submitted earlier (it is different in the detail) for Dish:

We know if a customer gets 2 Hoppers (and Joey's) from March 15th on, we know that those Hoppers will NOT see each other for sharing content and will function on separate networks until a later software update. So here is the question:

Later when the software is sent that allows Hoppers to see each other to share content on the same network, does the customer with 2 Hoppers from March 15th have to have a tech out to change the installation to allow for the Hoppers (and all Joeys to see the both Hoppers) to see each other OR will the Hoppers see each other requiring no tech visit, and if it does require a tech visit, WILL THERE BE ANY CHARGE TO SEND A TECH OUT so that both previously installed Hopper can see each other?

Thank you.

will ptat be avible to those whos locals are sd only on dish in the future

(Answer from Scott - No PTAT needs to have HD locals delivered to you via Satellite in order to function. I am expecting some expansion in the way of HD locals later on in the year.)

Another clarification requested:

When the software has been sent to allow Hoppers to see each other or be part or the same network, if a customer has 2 Hoppers in 2 different rooms being the ONLY rooms they want TV, is a Joey required in such a set-up so that each user in each room can access both Hoppers, or will just the 2 Hoppers be all that one needs?

this question is a little early, but i will put it out there anyway. it's really for when a dual hopper configuration can work together on the moca network.

does hopper require a video connection?

once they can see each other it will be easier for my current cabling if the 2 hoppers can see each other if they are both in the home theatre.

So what I want to know is will existing customers be charged 99.00 to upgrade to the Hopper? I've read posts saying that only certain existing customers will get it for free and others will have to pay 99.00 to upgrade. Then in a PDF file I read it said that it will be given as a instant 99.00 credit at the time of the order basically making it free. My other question is if the hopper can record 6 shows only during prime time then does that mean it will only be able to record 4 prime time shows from the big networks and 2 other shows from any channel?

Answer from Scott - That documentation you have seen is for NEW CUSTOMERS. What I am telling everyone who is an existing customer to expect to pay $99 for the upgrade, but some folks might get lucky and get their upgrade for free, if that happens consider it a pleasent surprise from DISH. :D

To answer the second question yes in prime time you can record up to 6 shows at ones (4 from PTAT and the other two from the other two satellite tuners.)

I have 3 Questions about the new dish hopper
1. Will google tv revue work with the hopper , will it intergrate with it as I am now using it on vip 622
2. Will my external hard drive programs that i recorded on my 622 show up on the hopper
3. Will I have to reformat my external hard drive to use it on the hopper.
Thanks Scott for all you and your staff do to help us.

Answer from Scott -

1) Yes it will work with GoogleTV as long as you are using the HDMI out to the Google TV, however it will not intergrate with the Google TV as the 622/722 does. (Which is good then you dont need to pay the $4 a month GoogleTV tax. :))
2) Yes you will be able to view your recordings made to a EHD on a 622/722 fine on the Hopper. (It will not recognize EHD's from 211's though as those are a different format)
3) Not at all. :)

Scott will there be any concern, that in march when folks can order Hopper, will we have to specify Hopper/joey over VIP equipment, or as a new customer that's what you will get automatically

Scott, I've attached an image of the Existing customer upgrade fees table from Thursday's chat. I continue to see post's stating existing customer upgrade fees of $0 to $99 for a Hopper. Do you know where these $0 or $99 upgrade fees are documented? Maybe Dish execs are listening to the feedback and changed the fees that were displayed on Thursdays chat. :)

I was told that you would need to specify that you want the Hopper system.

For some reason I thought it start at $0 but I went back to watch it again and see that it does start at $100.

Actually, this makes more sense and is inline with how they've done some past upgrades. Like you, I'm betting there's an install fee involved as well as a 24-month contract. Although when I went to HD back in 2008, my upgrade fee of $125 for the 722 included the tech visit for the install and a 24-month contract. I think tech visits were only $59 back then. If the $100 includes installation, they are giving a free upgrade to Plan A and Plan B subs.
