One thing that I do not understand regarding the pricing structure is the Hopper having the same monthly fee as a Joey. If I wanted a Hopper and a Joey for HD viewing capability on two HDTVs, why not get another Hopper and have 6 SAT tuners? This reason alone is why Dish missed the mark on the fee structure. I hope that the comments received on this board will "encourage" Dish to integrate a Joey free with the first $7.00 Hopper fee.

Second hopper isn't free though. Plenty of customers will avoid getting a second hopper because of the $199 charge. Even though the second hopper and joey have the same lease fee, you're still paying quite a bit more upfront for one versus the other.

THANK YOU! I'm really perturbed that so many are, in effect, telling Dish to increase the monthly fee for a second Hopper. They may not mean to, but that's the logical conclusion. And a free first Joey, which I certainly think would have been a marketing bonanza for Dish, would really have no connection to paying for a second Hopper. I think I probably could get by with 3 satellite tuners, but like the redundancy of a second Hopper (assuming one dead Hopper doesn't somehow take down the second). It'll be quite some time before we know how reliable Hoppers are.

There is no dispute that the extra hopper will cost you $200 up front. I am not saying that Dish should charge more for the 2nd hopper but I am simply stating the facts. It would make much more since to spend the one time fee of $199 and buy a second hopper than to get a joey for free and have no extra tuners. How much was the 922 to upgrade when it first came out? One thing we forget to mention is not only are you having to pay the upgrade fee, you are also signing a 24 month commitment. Talk about a double whammy!

It would probably be cheaper to terminate the agreement early than to pay retail for the receiver. At the end of the day, what good is the receiver going to be without Dish?

For two TV's the only way I would venture into get a Hopper, is to get two at this point. I would indeed pay the $200 and hope my many years with Dish continue. I actually wouldn't care if at first they weren't integrated. Why get a Joey that does nothing but bring the Hopper features to a second TV when I can have a back-up receiver, more tuners than I probably would ever need, and get my $4 worth of "Whole Home" fees (Over having one TV with one Hopper or even a Hopper and Joey with the same amount of tuners as just the Hopper) all for the same $7 a month as getting a Joey. (Or what they used to call a "Dumb Terminal") Then for a third TV, yes a Joey would be perfect.
Of all the complaints, whether you feel they are valid or invalid, you haven't heard complaints till the one receiver for the whole house dies and no one can watch or record their programs. A married couple with say just a 722 would be in the same boat, but we're talking supplying the kids rooms etc.. where now if more than two TV's there is a second or third receiver, there will be the one with the Hopper.

You could add the EHD feature to the spreadsheet. Both let you do it but D* disables the internal hard drive where E* lets both work and you can store shows on the EHD. Personally, I like the way E* does it better.
