I wonder how many young people here know who Jose Tartabul was. I once saw a cool picture from 1966 or 1967 with him and his son at a Red Sox father and son game.

Is that Danny Tartabul's dad?

I just checked out Danny Tartabul's birthday, and in doing so, discovered that in 2001, someone wrote a book called "Tartabul's Throw" that is a novel based on the most memorable, regular season play of the Red Sox, 1967 Impossible Dream" season (available from multiple sellers on Amazon.com for under $4, including shipping: Amazon.com: Used and New: Tartabull's Throw).

Played high school baseball with Danny Tartabull at Carol City High School in Miami, Florida in the *gulp* late 70s early 80s. At the time, the biggest 2nd baseman I had EVER seen...he was around 6-2(I am 5-8).

The Tartabull that played with the Red Sox in the late 60s was Danny dad, Jose Tartabull.

Interesting game on now between Detroit and St. Louis. Both teams are wearing Kelly Green, and the batboys look like Leprechauns. :clap :D

Yikes!!

New York Yankees relief pitcher Joba Chamberlain suffered an open dislocation of his right ankle while playing with his son on Thursday.

"As we understand, they were at, they have these kids places where you jump on trampolines and stuff like that," Yankees general manager Brian Cashman said Friday.

Chamberlain had surgery on Thursday night at St. Joseph's Hospital, and is expected to remain in the hospital for several days for the injury, which resulted in an open flesh wound around the ankle.

I wonder, with how good a pitcher he waa last year..he DID take longer to sign than most good pitchers...could he have already been damaged goods?

It wouldn't surprise me.

Jeez, right in my own backyard....

Police are investigating whether a childhood friend of major league pitcher Carl Pavano tried to extort money from him by threatening to publicize details of their relationship while attending Southington High School.

The investigation was started in late December after Pavano's sister, Michelle DeGennaro, complained to police that she was being harassed through her Facebook account.

Det. Mark Beal, summarizing in the affidavit a Facebook message Bedard sent to DeGennaro, wrote: "Bedard states Pavano is gay, and they had a relationship when they were growing up.

"Bedard said he has a book deal in place worth $1.2 million and that it can all go away if Pavano buys him a navy Range Rover with tan leather."

DeGennaro and her family told police Bedard's statements were untrue, the affidavit says.

As much as I like hockey & basketball, there is just something about the return of outdoor sports like MLB Baseball,& soon to be CFL Football in July & American Football(both college & NFL) in the Fall, that really brightens up the place.
