6 Recordings at once.

You can record 6 things at once during PrimeTime hours ONLY, with PrimeTime Anytime enabled the Hopper records all of the shows on the big 4 networks during primetime hours using one tuner, leaving you with two other tuners for other things. If you need more than 3 tuners you could always get a 2nd Hopper. If you don't need it you could not enable PrimeTime Anytime.

It only works that way during prime time of the big 4 networks (ABC, CBS, Fox, NBC). One tuner is used to record a stream that contains all 4 of the networks and the other two tuners can be used for any two other streams. When it's not prime time, the three tuners can tune any three channels, as usual.

Even people on this site are confused. Just think about those less tech savy ones.

DISH should say record up to 6 programs at once during prime time. I know their legalese at the bottom says this but they need to actually say it.

Don't forget that it will only record the "big 4" if they're in HD. My Fox isn't in HD so my PTAT only records 3 channels.

Could you elaborate on that a bit? Scott has stated over and over that the entire transponder is recorded, rather than demultiplexing 4 (or 3, or 2, or only 1) HD channels on the fly. So if he is right, then why aren't all the channels on that transponder available in the PTAT tile for 8 days?

Just think of the lies Dish marketing could tell. If the Hopper allowed you to access all those channels, they could claim that a single Hopper could record "up to 10 channels" at once! People would then think the Hopper had 10 tuners.

My local Fox is only in SD. The Topeka HD Channels are on satellite 129 transponder 6. The Fox channel is on Satellite 110 transponder 31. This means it is not included in the PTAT grouping. PTAT will only work if your locals are in HD. I believe if you're in an area without HD locals, PTAT won't even work. They are testing our Fox HD channel on the transponder with the other HD locals, but it isn't available yet.

it records the Big4 networks in HD...so if one of your stations is not in HD or say yanked due to dispute that net will not record.
If your locals are in SD only it wont work either.

It would be 2 free tuners and 4 PTAT recordings on one Hopper and another 2 free tuners and 4 PTAT recordings on the second Hopper for a grand total of 12 recordings at once. Still only 6 real tuners though.

You are correct. However, so is Iceberg...since the PTAT would be duplicates and therefore do not count twice. So you have to throw out the duplicated 4 from your 12, leaving 8 as he stated. Still, not half bad. :p
