Jay Bruce of the Reds was named player of the week last week.

And the Marlins hitting woes continue, but THIS TIME, the starting pitching(Ricky Nolasco) and SURPRISE, SURPRISE...Heath Bell, hold on to outduel Matt Cain, 2-1.

And how about a 4 hit, ground ball laden 4-0 shutout by Jerome Williams to show some spark in the Angels' life! Williams? He was given up for dead years ago. I was not in favor of them signing him. Hopefully I was wrong and he has something to contribute this season. Congrats to him.

I beleive it is the 2nd longest stretch in MLB history for a pitcher to go between shutout victories.

Listening to MLB radio yesterday morning the hosts said there are two teams in baseball that are automatic slump busters, the Padres and the Twins. Sometimes all it takes is beating up on a bad team to get the momentum going in your favor.

Sorry Ice, but the Twins are a bad team.

No wonder the Dodgers had such a strong start. Two series against the Padres in the first week of the season.

That certainly helped them. They have also beat the teams with winning records so far as well.

The Dodgers have played surprisingly well so far. I would have never thought they would have this good of a record.

I watched the Guggenheim Group "unveiling" at Dodger Stadium today. I was impressed. Then it suddenly hit me...I no longer have a reason to hate the Dodgers or boycott visiting the Stadium! This is a weird feeeling after all of these years.

Becket matched his career high pitch count of 126 on Sunday. Now he is stiff and will miss his next start.

The Red Sox called up the hot hitting Will Millbrooks to replace Youkilis at third while he is injured. If Middlebrooks can hit .260 or better. look for the Red Sox to exercise their $1 million buyout of Youkilis's $13M team option for next year.

Not that this means much, but Manny Ramirez was fed up with Youkilis's temper tantrums in the dugout when they last played together.

Ramirez was fed up with Youk's temper tantrums? Coming from him and the crap that he pulled with the Red Sox, thats rich.

What the hell has happened to the Mets? There walking the ballpark and got swept by the Astros of all teams.

Agon is the new Arod, awesome when the team is either up or trailing 10-1. Otherwise he sucks. Strikes out or grounds out in most every clutch situation he come up in.

I just understand pitchers these days. The baseball player is supposed to be bigger, stronger and healthier..and I see that with everyday players...but not starting pitchers. I remember reading a stat that Bob Gibson had over 20 complete games quite a few times in his career. I could be wrong, but now adays, you rarely get a starter with more than 5 in one season.

That was a different time, pre Sparky Anderson and how he made the Reds successful. Bob Gibson and Mickey Lolich were iron men. I saw Lolich and somebody else start and go into the 14th inning in a scoreless game.
