Ah. That's better. For a sec, I thought you were gonna respond, "It's ok. I promised my Aunt and Uncle I'd let their little angel watch as many cartoons as she wanted after we got married."

LOL...............He's in Texas not TN.

The deal sites had info posted as well as "the other satellite forum (which I am also a member of but I was a member here first for a longer time but saw that I could help some members there with issues).

Yea its hard to gauge but,we know there have been 143 roku boxes sent out here. There are also guests that may have read of the offer and got them as well. Then factor in customers that got emails/postcards and other sites.I'm guessing it will be somewhere in the ballpark of 500 roku units sent out by dish.

I am going to assume if you lack a sense of entitlement and never asked for “special compensation” for a group of channels you never watched your are suppose to refrain from voting, is this correct?

Wow, that's even less than I thought. I would have guessed about 1500.

well guesstimation isn't my strong suit:D So somewhere between 500 and 3000 maybe?

Well....Its pretty simple actually either yay or nay.

Just received my Roku today and had some time to play with and document. Made a video of what I had and going through the setup.
Video Link: http://youtu.be/Up1fNkWmQYY?hd=1

Talked with Dish on 7/2 at 3pm. Box has postmark from Scotts Valley, CA and had to come to Minnesota with a holiday in between. It shipped USPS.

Had no issues connecting to my 802.11g 2.4GHz router running DD-WRT. (56Mbps link) I connected it to my 56" DLP via HDMI.

I set the Roku to 1080p even though the TV only supports 1080i. It figured it out.
Unit came with Software version 4.2 build 1006. I checked for an update and there was one. version 4.7 build 2049 is now loaded on my Roku.

I tried Crackle, and found their movie The Fifth Element was o.k, but quality was fairly low. Limited detail, below a better DVD, well above VHS. Bandwidth usage was under 1Mbps, though a couple spikes to 1.3Mbps when it was buffering.

I enabled linking to my amazon prime account, and tried streaming Mission Impossible 3. It showed "HD" quality for my stream but was quite a bandwidth hog. Running around 13 Mbps on average of bandwith used up. There was some detail there, i.e. sweat drips and such, but a rough image, lacking other details. Above DVD, below Blue Ray. Certainly sufficient, but I've seen Dish Streaming with BBHome that uses less bandwidth and has similar if not better visual quality.

Next time I have some real time I will sit down and benchmark various services across my wifi.

Yes, a hard wired connection would be better overall, but remember, the Roku 2 XD doesn't have a ethernet port. it's Wifi only.

Oh, and as far as powering down? Nope, never does. Those energy aware might consider putting this box on a power strip that you can easily shut off when not needed. I'll see if I can hook my Kill-o-Watt unit up and see how much it draws when running the screen saver it switches to. Probably will move any more Roku tech stuff down to the IPTV forum here.

You power down the unit every time you'll have to wait each time for the unit to boot up.Plus when idling that is when it gets software updates.
I find that hd is pretty good just not bleu ray quality.Crackle though not hd is as good as dvd.

Join the Roku forum and you'll learn lots and have your questions answered about this little box.Have for units and love them.I am also a beta tester for them.

AND...not all of them are Dish subs...The current poll is probably a good representation of the number of SatGuys members who took advantage of the offer....

Agreed, when talking about SatGuys

I say 500 or less.

the threads on the deal sites suggest otherwise. Considering for sure 145 people here got it, that would mean only about 350 others got it. No way- not with the thousands of responses places like FW generates. Hell, they nearly crashed http://bringhopperhome.com/ and as of now, they are out of stock. Wonder how many SatGuys got one.

Hopefully dish will publish a statement with a figure of how many they sent out.

Again, there are a lot of non-subs, and subs who don't qualify. Raw numbers mean little. And Dish will NEVER reveal how many.

A couple more comments... General questions about the Roku, bringing them to this thread is probably a good idea: The Streaming Video / IPTV Discussion Forum

Also, you don't need a CC to activate the Roku. They will take Paypal as well. They don't charge anything through it, just set it up so that if you choose to purchase something through the Roku, it will go through that account. Paypal is a little better as then you don't have one other company to update when your CC expires.
