AZBOX New firmware version 0.9.5402 for AzBox Elite, Ultra, Premium and Premium Plus models

Although I don't know if You are able to debug media player from AZBox firmware, I want to tell about some problems with it reported by me or by other users on official azbox forum (forum.azbox.com):

1. Italic subtitle corresponding to a storyteller from an MKV container is not shown (on my PC with VLC is ok);
2. Sub. not working. Also using .txt files as subtitle makes whole movie player to shutdown. Only .srt has worked fine;
3. MKV container file with DTS audio is not loaded (black screen);
4. Player stops before the end of the movie: Concerning this problem (very annoying indeed), many people have suggested that the duration time was wrong. I have checked it with various Windows players on my PC and he duration time is correct. But i have noticed that the elapsed time clock runs too fast. It regularly skips 1 second when playing and when the expected duration is reached, the film stops. Yet shouldn't this be a bug so difficult to fix.

Thank you in advance!

downloaded new firmware on 7/12 at 1700 cdt. took maybe 20 min to download. after the download had to leave and it finished up ok. put the unit to sleep for a couple of hours. would not fire up but knowing the key strokes on the remote did a shutdown, down three times (i think that is the reboot), then ok and it booted up ok. went to 101w cband and blind scanned. dang, got a lockup on east limits. then have to go into satellite setup and clear limits lockup in diseq2. that happens almost every time i do a blind scan. how can i get around this problem? new firmware is fast but now when i change channels the picture comes in right away, then goes away and then comes back steady. charlie

Hi Charlie

This bug has been around for ages! I disable my limits in my V Box and all is well again. It is a pain, but I don't think there is much else you can do. Perhaps PwrSurge can look into this bug and correct in the next version.

where do you disable the limits? is there a place in the az setup to disable them other than after you have blind scanned and have to go back to the diseq setup? thanks charlie

I use the remote control to the V Box and press the limit button and after 10 seconds it disables them. I don't use the AZBox at all to disable them. Or as Magic Static says turn off the V box, an even better idea!

Yes, enabling the swap file will enhance performance even more. However, as you noted, an internal or external properly installed hard disk MUST be connected at all times when using this feature which is why it is not enabled by default.
The priority manager plugin mentions editing a configuration file with subs etc. before enabling the swap file, is this necessary? how does one do this?

The only thing I saw that might be a concern was the type of HDD used for the swap file. It was set to the internal drive that I have installed in my Ultra HD. Every thing looked correct so I enabled it :) Works nicely so far

I updated this am to the 5402 version. Now C-band NBC feeds on 105 seem to be gone. The channels are still there but no signal or Q. Very weird. Nasa and the other mu:mad:s) Telemundo and 3920 are 90+ in Q.
Did a re-boot and re-scan. I'm sure the mux is still there...??

The ones on 103 ku were wrong too. The FEC and Pilot were wrong on 103 NBC's. They should be dvb-s2, FEC 5/6, Pilot ON. Should be the same way for 105w ones, too, so check and make sure. Once I changed the transponders accordingly, they all scanned in no problem.

But for a much better performing Azbox, I'll cut Brother Pwr some slack. :cool:

Charlie, just Reboot the AzBox when you are in the DisEqC 1.2 setup right after you hit Resetting Limits, and the Reboot will clear the problem. I have this problem everytime I scan in a new Satellite - its annoying but the Reboot in DicEqC 1.2 will clear it out.

Tnx Stogie that was it...
Only getting 80%Q on the NBC mux, thought it was better before. Might have to check alignment later on when the sun is a bit lower.
Otherwise the update works just fine.

Attn pwrsurge:

A Couple of questions for you:

1. What is the ATSC/QAM tuner software status - Have the bugs been fixed? You announced almost a year ago that fixes would be coming out very soon, but I haven't seen anything in the release notes since that announcement.

2. These latest updates (for this thread) don't appear on the official Azbox firmware distribution site AZBox Snapshots The last update there is 2011.09.06 azbox-0.9.5309-patch.bin. What's the story behind this - Where is the official site - Is the firmware that you have posted an official release?

Thanks, Jim

The reason why OpenSat doesn't have the 0.9.5310 in its list is, according to Opensat, because of problems with the update server.

The reason why the 0.9.5402 is not on the OpenSat firmware list, is because the 0.95402 is the effort of pwrsurge and its team and not OpenSat.
So, officially, the 0.9.5402 firmware is alternative firmware. ;)

So, is 0.9.5402 considered a fork in the official software?

Is the source code available?

Hi Guys....first post, so be gentle...

I have had this AzBox Premium HD for about 3 years, but, due to health reasons, I gave up on it over two years ago....

I got cancer, and this was the last thing on my mind....

My question is really geared toward making this a replacement FTA Box for the Sky Pay service we have here in Ireland, for which I pay monthly....

this was my original plan before my illness.......now I will have to do it for financial reasons, just on pension now!!!!

Also, during that period, support for this Box went missing here, the guy who sold it to me went out of business, etc.

So, in a roundabout way, I'm asking really, is the new firmware being rolled out suitable for Ireland, all I have at the moment is a Sky provided dish looking at Astra 28.2E.

We also now have at last in Ireland, a Free Terrestrial DTV service, and I have a DVB-T Module in the box, and a 1TB Hard Drive....

So, can ppl here give an opinion as to whether I will be able to use your new F/W on my AzBox??
