so lets say you buy one....does it add 2 years to your contract?

saying you already have a HR34 and you decide to buy (lease) one

Thats what I'm hoping.
Hell for $39 I could throw one in the computer room and watch some stuff....but if it adds 2 years (or even 1 year) then screw it

Don't think it adds to contract but you have to pay $6 a month for a additional unit.

That's what the C31 would be good for, placing in a work area at your home like a work shop, garage, wood shop......that way it doesn't tie up a tuner from the HR34 full time.

It will be a leased receiver & probably require a contract. The retail price for an existing customer is $99. I am sure solid signal's price is an error or they just like loosing $50 on each c31.

Maybe, but it says clearly that a C31 is $39 and you are saving $50.99.

I think that's the correct price. Not much to the unit. Very small just a mirroring unit. I was told price would be around $50 glad thy came in low.

If what you are saying is correct, then the C31 will be a monumental failure for DIRECTV. For someone to pay the same price that they could pay for a H24 or especially a H25 HD receiver(that has its OWN tuner) for a tuner-less extension of the HR34 is nuts. To expect to have your contract extended another 2 years for a neutered bo:mad:& who cares if it is "Genie approved," what does that even mean?) is insane.

Don't get me wrong,I'm intrigued by the C31,& I do see merits for it. But to pay what you would for a HD receiver for this box & also expect to have your contract extended by 2 years,NOBODY is going to buy into that.

I am looking at the dealer pricing & Directv dealer adjustment for existing customers & it is higher than $39. I agree that the C31 is only a client & should not cost as much as a H25 but Directv does not see it that way. It looks like the Genie/c31 will be the standard equipment config for new customers up to 4 rooms. This is to compete with the Hopper system. The Joey is also a client & is priced at $99.

As a household which RARELY even uses 3 tuners at a time, we'd MUCH prefer to have the DVR functions offered by the C31 (I've been shocked they even released the HR34 without the endpoints having the DVR functions)

Not sure its worth extending my contract tho... based on the multiple issues I've had, I plan to RUN from DTV the minute my 2 years are up.

You may not use three tuners at a time to watch, but I know I've had all four of my DVR tuners (2xHR24) recording while watching something on another box wishing I had more recording tuners. I wind up with a lot of conflicts on Sunday and Monday nights (and it will get worse very soon because all the new seasons are about to start).. With the HR34 (Which is being rebranded as the Genie - hence "Genie Approved"), if you have four recordings going at once and are watching a fifth program on the local TV, then the C31 clients are SOL. They are stuck watching pre-recorded content or a recording-in-progress because there are no available live tuners.

I am looking to possibly get an HR34 once my contract is up to replace one of my H24's just because I need more recording tuners. If there were no monthly charge, I would absolutely get a C31 for the guest room and office because the guest room isn't used that often and I'm the only one in the office so if that's on it means I'm not in one of the other rooms.. But you are absolutely right, given my DVR habits, I would not give up the extra tuner and still have to pay the full mirroring charge. If they have to charge a fee on that, it should only be a buck or two tops. Not only that but isn't the HR24 already a higher fee anyway?

other than the HR24 having a $8 dvr fee there is no difference

I switched from 2 R22's to a HR34 to save $6 a month and gain a tuner

Wait, so they charge $20 for the HR34 "Advanced HDDVR Fee" plus you still pay the $8 for the regular? Or are they just rolling the HD/DVR/MRV fees into one for the HR34 and you don't pay the standard $8 dvr - just the lease - regardless how many DVRs you have in addition to the HR34?

The $20 fee is only for new subs last I checked. It is the $8 DVR fee + $3 MRV fee + $10 HD fee
Take $1 off and the $10 free HD credit and its $10

The DVR fee is $8 regardless of DVR count on the account. Current subs can add MRV for $3 if they want. New subs I think are charged it regardless

Ok that's what I thought, but I saw somewhere mentioned a $20 "Advanced DVR Fee" on the HR34.. So right now I have two HR24's and two H24's. I pay the $7 DVR and $3 MRV fee, plus the 3x $6 leases.. I get the $10 HD credit.

You're saying that if I were to just change one of the H24's for the HR34, my fees should all remain the same, right?

Yeah typo.. meant $8.. In the post above about the higher fee that you quoted I also meant to put HR34, not 24.. :)

Good to know.

BTW still can't do thanks/like from Tapatalk, Scott gotta fix that.. :)

Sent from my Galaxy SII using some Tappity Talkity thing.
