Mine must have updated as well. When I turned it on this morning and hit lists, I got a screen explaining Genie.

so here is the big question........I looked at it and maybe for giggles I'll turn the feature on
It says it doesnt affect your playlist capacity but lets say it decides to record something....does it take up a tuner to record? So if it decides to record 2 things at the same time you have other stuff going, what gets priority?

I have had Genie since I updated last Saturday. It will take a couple days at least to build it data. Took mine 3 days I think. It's pretty cool I guess. Just shows you a bunch of show you might like. I already record most of what it shows me. You can watch any of the shows it shows you if you hit the play button on the show you want. I have no recording conflicts as of yet but it's only been used for a couple days.

I am not positive, but I think I remember reading that it downloaded the content from VOD, so it does not use a tuner. I know for positive that it will in no way conflict with any scheduled recordings.
exactly. When I bring up the "things you'd like" (from the old mydirectv thing) around this time it will start showing the news that is coming up. Last thing I need is for it to record 3 newscasts
It's easy enough to turn Genie off if you don't want it, but since it doesn't take up user-addressable hard drive space, why bother/
Actually I was just told that the HR 34 will not be called Genie but the new HR 44 will take the Genie name.
I am told that the HR 44 is just like the HR 34 but it only has 3 tuners instead of 5.

Shame, they don't need to compete on everything with Dish, why go to 3 tuners when you have a successful product with 5 tuners.
I guess rather than make the HR34 free for new customers instead of $99, maybe the 3 tuner "Genie" will be the free offering.

This new software is really hosing up right now.....so I had to do a antenna reset because we got a new channel today. So it went though and got the new channel and downloaded guide.
Now none of the VOD works
When you scroll through the guide where the banners normally are they are blank in the guide but if you roll to them they show the info.
So I did a restart....and then the OTA channels gave me error 750 (cant tune to them)
so I reset OTA and redid it and now we're back to the guide looking dorky. Guess I'll wait til later to see if it fills in properly.
