While stopped for traffic they had the spool right beside the road and I noticed it said commscope cable optical type.At least that's what it appeared to be.My question is,does this type of cable support internet?I have no interest in the tv offerings of charter but cable internet and faster speeds plus the opportunity to leave ATT would be enticing.

Well, got ahold of Charter sales via chat today and, have an install set for tuesday!30mbps for $39.99 mo. for 12 mos.Currently paying $47 mo for 6mbps dsl through att.So not only does it save money but increases the speed 5X!Very excited!

From what I hear Charter has very good internet. Wish I could get it. At least they are actively pursuing new construction which was completely halted a few years ago before they filed for bankruptcy. I remember when their stock was below $1 & now it's over $70. They are doing very well now as a company. Hope you enjoy your new internet.

I'll keep you posted. As long as it stays connected no downtime,it will definitely be better than ATT.

I still have no idea why they chose to run cable here, honestly we are in the sticks, perhaps it was to compete with ATT,either way I'm glad they did.Competition is always good in my book.

Agreed. I have had charter internet since 2002 and its been great! I,too, recently got the 30mbit but I had to pay 44.99...LOL

Well the 30mb plan for $39.99 is introductory, the price goes up by $5 the second year.

I have Charter internet only and have not had any issues, only blip was they changed to 3.0 docsis here and I didn't know it for a while and my old modem did not handle 3.0 very well, bought a Motorola SB6120 and works great. I have the 30mb plan and have had Charter for 8-9 years or so.
The only times I did not have service was when all electric power was knocked out after an ice storm and once when we had tornadoes and power was out everywhere here. Very reliable service (now watch I'll have problems with it).

The only thing that I don't like going in is the fact that they don't offer any lesser packages. Its 30 or 100 only now.On the plus side the modem is free.I read somewhere that if you had docsis 2 equipment they would upgrade it at no charge to a docsis 3 modem.Thinks its the cisco modem,no lease or rental fees that I could find.

how far were their services away from you before they started adding in your area? charter is a few miles from me. i like that price and speed as well!!

Well its quite a story as to how they finally got the cable run completed here.But.I'll try to skip the long story part.19E is one of the main rds here in our county and Charter slowly but surely has been following it south for many years. The good part is they are following all the secondary roads as they progress. We are roughly 4 miles from the main rd.

I'm not sure if they accepted some of the government money in the rural broadband initiative or not but, they seem to really be expanding here lately.AT&T refused to participate in the program, they seem to care very little about dsl service anymore.

we just got natural gas lines installed here this year and maybe charter will look at expanding here as well. thats about how far charter is from me,maybe a little closer. i do not think i would want them for tv but i would want the internet.

No thanks to the tv portion for us.We are pretty happy with Dish and love the dvrs. You can get some channels for free though with your internet subscription.Clear qam which in most cases is locals, pretty nice bonus. Also I dunno how they get away with it but Charter doesn't charge tax for the internet here.Maybe it's a cable thing. So factoring that in I'll actually be saving around $10 a month plus faster speed, and a few local channels. That blows AT&T out of the water!

There are no taxes on any internet service. I think it is federal law.

Well somehow AT&T whether through the bundle deal or whatever fee they can come up with next hooks us for more than the advertised $47.

Still patiently waiting on the charter tech to get here.:)

Frontier does it by adding the modem fee, another fee (not a tax), and so forth. Probably makes up for the bundling discount they give us.

well....Charter is certainly not off to a good start here.Waited till 1pm and they called in a replacement tech because the first one was behind. The tech got everything run from the pole to inside only to find out that something was wrong with the main cable. They couldn't get the modem to lock signal. Now they are scheduled to come back in a week? Not sure why it would take another week to get it fixed but,oh well.

Charter co. is a crook and liar.
Years back charter offered us a bundle for TV,internet and phone with a 1 year price warranty for $69.
So we change everything to charter and who would not...
That $69 cost us $ 148 every month and when we called them many times, they told us that they never could had offered that.
Since the agreement was recorded I ask them to play it back to me, but they refused to do so or they could not find it and this is B.S since it is stored with your account info at charter.
I finally had enough and canceled the phone and TV and that saved me $900 a year.

Did they tell you how much your total bill will be?
Reason I ask is... when I looked at my internet bill back then it was $35 plus $20 on taxes plus $5 access charges and additional federal taxes.

For how long is your contract?

Around here charter internet sucks and is off for many hours many times.
Good luck.

Yea I have that in writing. Its straight up $39.99 for 30mbps,no tax,no contract. There is a one time install fee of $19.99.Charter has eliminated slower speeds and contracts. For how long who knows.
