It would be nice to own a receiver that if I lose power for a couple of minutes that I don't have to wait forever to re-download the program guide. I miss half the show I'm watching after it regains the signal and programming guide. The receivers need a solid state memory module that holds a back up for the programming guide so when I lose power it still has that information and it doesn't have to re-download it. :)

Yes. I have thought of plugging the receiver into a UPS but still it would be nice if the receiver had this built in memory to save the guide.

add a UPS to your receiver if it bothers you, don't try and increase the cost of our receivers to make you happy.

Explain? Being smart? Make me happy? A better idea bothers you? How much does memory cost now? How much does a UPS cost? How is that gonna raise the price of a receiver?

Getting a UPS doesn't absolve Dish of stupid system design. Come on now, they don't even back things up on a DVR, where it wouldn't cost them any extra hardware at all!

(And it's not just the guide -- how about the switch configuration?! How many bits of flash would it take to back up that? After all, once it's set the first time, it's never going to change for most people, and if it does, you can initiate a scan manually!)

If you think that's a pain, try having a DPP44 added into the mix. Just the other day there was a 10-second power outage and when everything came back it seemed like all was well. Well 2 of the Hoppers were perfectly fine however one of the Hoppers was having problems with it's third tuner.

The Hopper indicated that LNB drift was detected in 110/119/129 with huge values if e-132 and o+132. No amount of resetting the Hopper would fix for more than 5 minutes. So finally I deducted that it must be the DPP44.

The only way to reset the DPP44 is to unplug ALL of the receivers as well as the power inserter PLUS run a check switch when everything's plugged back in. Well it worked out in the end but needless to say it's inconvenient. First time that ever happened though, and that wasn't the first power outage I've had since having this setup.

if you have the hard drive hooked up to the 211 it takes even longer because its trying to download a full 9 day guide...without the hard drive its only 2 days

9 days? I never need it past a few hours. lol Still a little memory on the receiver would save a lot of hassle. Without the added expense of a UPS which won't help if the power stays out a long time.

I have also seen how annoying it is (for me and customers) to sit there and wait on Dish Network and Directv receivers to boot up after they first get power. I guess they have tried to cut cost where they can. No channel number or clock on front of screen like Primestar and cable boxes have, no built in memory to hold that information, among many other things I bet.

Personally as far as the clock thing goes I prefer the minimalist look that the Hopper (and the ViPs to a slightly lesser extent) has. No bright lights on the box while you're watching a movie, and for those of you that will probably say "I keep mine in an entertainment center hidden anyway" well what would be the point of having a clock there then?

I dunno, I think those bright green LED clocks on the cable boxes and the likes look a little old-fashioned to me.
