My audio receiver often clicks...sometimes as I am surfing through channels, as in...

5,6,7(click),8(click),9,10 IOW, ch 7 made it click.

or also as a string of commercials are playing, as one comes on, the click; as the next one comes on, click again.

I am assuming this is because the audio feed is changing to a different format and that causes my receiver to change modes, but does anyone have more of an explanation? I am just curious.

And why are there different audio streams anyway?

That's probably the reason, changing audio formats. My Onkyo receiver does it when I go from an hd to an sd channel with a Direct box. My Yamaha receiver doesn't.

Depends on the receiver Some brands will some want, and teh reason for the two different audio types depends on the channel. Or even on the same channel say you go from a commercial in HD to a commercial in STD but on the same channel. Or the show might be in dolby5.1 then you jump to a commercial that is not.
