...look at it like this, if a customer could access all of these apps from the Hopper then they would all get a Hopper for a one box solution. If everyone gets a Hopper and uses the apps on there then fewer people are buying other add on devices which should help Dish as well. Seems like a no-brainer to me.
Yes, that's one way to look at it. In the corporate world though, companies do NOT want their name next to a competitor's name, let alone built-in with their own product !

I just had to have our company's most recent newsletter revised because we had stories about each of them in the same month ! Or, I was just forwarded an email about booths at an upcoming tradeshow in which one company was positioned next to a competitor. They made arrangements to have their booth moved.

OTOH, competitors are also often partners, as well.

What if Dish charged say 99 cents like the apple app store and allowed 3rd parties to write apps for the hopper. I would pay 99 cents for a Netflix app or a better Weather Radar app. Dish would make lots of money like apple and we would get all the video apps we want.

I think that's a great idea. Heck, if it was only a one time fee I'd be willing to pay a little more than $.99 for a Netflix app. (I'm talking $5 or less)

My other wishes:
1. For Dish to release a stand alone app for the Sling adapter so you can view content directly off the Hopper if your remote device is on the same network. I know the stand-alone Slingboxes do this.

2. When you press the record button during a program give the option to record from the beginning (if that is buffered) or from that point in the program

3. I would also love to have some sort of backup method for recorded content. Conceptually something like plugging in an EHD, running a backup program and the removing the EHD. I'd be fine with that drive being encrypted/secured that it is only available to restore data not randomly access it. (Pretty much like tape backup works). I realize that is a pie-in-the-sky idea though. Content providers would probably go nuts over that and some bright person would eventually crack the security to allow the content to be restored anywhere. A guy can dream though.

I'd be more than willing to pay a small one-time fee for each of Netflix, Hulu and Amazon Instant. As it now, I keep a mac mini hooked up to my TV just for those, but the 'significant other' can never figure out how to switch sources and has to ask our 8-year old for help.

My wishes:

1. I'd like to see User-created Folders in the DVR list behave the same way it did on the 722 and earlier receivers in that content saved into a user-created folder would only display when you went into that specific folder, yet all other content could still be grouped/sorted into folders per program. As it sits now, if you go to "My Folders", there is no way to have the remaining programs grouped by show title.

At the very least, I'd be satisfied if they revised it such that shows you had set to go to a specific folder, didn't show up in the main "Folders by Title" screen. (i.e. the only time you'd see recordings placed in a specific folder was once you switched to "My Folders" and went inside that specific folder)

2. Add back the ability to rename programs in the DVR list (again, like we could on the 722 and prior receivers)

3. Add a "Protect/Unprotect" Toggle to the menu that pops up when you select a recording, instead of forcing us to go into a separate "Edit" screen just to set the "Protect" option.

4. Like the OP stated, Activate the "Add Locals" button to manually add OTA stations w/o having to re-scan.

All suggestions a big +1

I agree. I would LOVE to have HBOgo and Amazon Instant Video apps on my Hoppers. For those of you that say they wouldn't because those are competitors I would look at it like this, if a customer could access all of these apps from the Hopper then they would all get a Hopper for a one box solution. If everyone gets a Hopper and uses the apps on there then fewer people are buying other add on devices which should help Dish as well. Seems like a no-brainer to me.

And Charlie would put it this way: "I aint gonna pay Amazon and all my other OTT competitors to allow our subscribers to watch LESS Dish channels that we have no choice but to pay for, anyway. Let them pay for it and buy a Roku, but giving money (those who have such apps PAY for the right to have Amazon, Netflix, etc. on their devices) to the very services that are motivating subscribers to cut the Dish "cord" is a great way to got out of business a lot sooner. Let Amazon and Netflix pay to our customers, not us paying them to take our customers."

And TiVo has been trying to be the ONE BOX for coming up on 6 years, and their implementation of the OTT services is painfully inferior, as I would surely expect Dish to do not much better. Let's face it, the Roku (or your favorite 3rd party streamer) provides the best experience. That's why we all go out and get one of those 3rd party boxes, because the experience on quite a few "Smart TV's" can become frustrating or they simply don't have the breadth of apps and content that a Roku has. Roku has just about everybody, but YouTube. IMHO, as decent as the Sony and Samsung TV experience can be for OTT, the Roku, especially its latest ethernet model, is easily a smooth, pleasant and superior experience with quick skip back like a DVR, easy to navigate FFW or RW, and superior PQ and smooth playback like a DVR due to its technology of checking bandwidth and loading a fair amount of data in memory that makes using my "Smart TV's" and clunky interfaced Blu-rays a PITA by comparison. I also like the Roku tiles and quick response compared to other streamers I have used. Point being, Dish can seem to NEVER do anything right except DBS. Most would just buy a separate streaming box anyway. That's why they are selling so well. They are VERY GOOD at what they do. A lot like how well Amazon Kindle is doing even though people already have a tablet that can be a reader, but a well designed, easily superior device that was designed to be JUST a reader (Kindle Fire now has tablet-like options) has sold so unexpectedly well. People WANT that best possible experience and are willing to buy more than one device to experience that. There is a reason Kindle and Roku sell so well when other devices do the same thing, but those devices are to busy trying to be "the one box" whether it is a "Smart TV," a Blu-ray that streams or a TiVo, or a proposed Dish "one box" solution. Lots of Echostar R&D money wasted.

"easy to navigate FFW or RW"

You've got to be kidding me. Roku's FF/RW is clunky at best. Not being able to see where you are in the program while FF/RW is horridly frustrating.

How about they FINALLY FIX the skip that happens with dvr'ed programs when fast forwarding or rewinding....Ridiculously frequent - I can't believe they've allowed this to continue for soooooo long!

ARGH!!!

I would really like them to change how you play episodes from a folder. Currently if you have multiple episodes of a show in a folder, pressing play will play the newest episode.

Directv if you press play on a folder it will play the oldest episode and then when that show is done it will start playing the next oldest episode automatically. Very handy and a nice feature. Would really like the hopper to do that as well.

I want #3 Miss this from my 625.

This would be a GREAT fix. Mine happens when watching from my second hopper.

How about being able to sort by episode number or better by original date within the program folder? Better because the episode numbers do not always follow the story--who assigns them?

I've gathered a lot of Blue Bloods, Castle, Curb Your Enthusiasm, Dexter, Futurama, Modern Family, Person of Interest, Revenge, The Mentalist, and Monty Python episodes from various sources. Some are in runs but others are rather random on the recording date (catching re-runs) and even network. It makes it hard to follow when you can only sort by date recorded with all the titles being the same. There are more such series, these just some that come to hand.

If you could alter the title (a lot of work) you might sort by that but it all becomes lower case after the initial letter on my 722 and you would lose their folder-ness.

Someday I get to seeing them!

Can already sort by episode # on Hopper. They should add that functionality to the ViPs.

Sent from my iPhone 4S using SatelliteGuys

They may be competitors in the content arena, but not in transmission. Why should cable/dsl get the only piece of the pie in delivering the Netflix/Amazon streams? If they could be delivered via satellite then that would give more people options for being able to use Netflix/Amazon, especially in areas where broadband speeds are unattainable.

I doubt they could be delivered by satellite, unless via something like Wild Blue. I'd expect the Hopper to do the streaming via Internet.
