We have seen a couple major issues with our Original Hopper recently and I haven't seen anyone else post about these, so I wanted to see if anyone else is having the same issues.

  • The more troublesome issue is that when we press the DVR button 3 times to get to the Daily Schedule, the screen goes black and never displays the actual schedule. When we were on 234, an error message used to pop up that said something like 'this feature is not yet active' and then it would just jump back to live TV. Now that we are on 238, it appears to have gotten worse and it locks up on the black screen and either we have to red button reset it or it reboots on it's own. This doesn't happen all the time, but when it does, it seems like we can continually repeat it even after it reboots. This happened four times to me this morning. I have had better luck getting to the Daily Schedule by pressing the DVR button once and then pressing the Red button and selecting Daily Schedule from the list, but even this sometimes fails.
  • The second thing is is that we are setting timers for shows as only new and then lets say that the initial airing is at 9 pm and there is a conflict at that time, but it repeats at 12 am, but it is skipping the 12 am airing as not being new. This has never been a problem before and it always used to catch the later airing automatically and record it, now it seems like we have to manually correct this or they will be skipped altogether.
Now, one thing that always seems to be an issue with us is that we are almost always hitting either the 96 timer or 574 event limits, so I don't know if being close to those limits is causing problems or not. We are trying to change some of our timers to lower the number of events, but that can be difficult on some shows as they don't hold to a set schedule and they repeat a lot.

Has anyone else been seeing these same issues??

Based off of the first issue you listed, I would personally have my Hopper replaced. I've never seen that happen on either of my Hoppers and if it happened in S234 and S238, I would get a new Hopper. I think something is wrong with your box.

Agreed. I've never experienced the first issue. Get a replacement.

have not had your first issue, but I am still on s234. Now the issue with not recording the second airing of a new episode due to conflict during first airing, I have had this happen quite a few times and it is really irritating. I have been going trough the schedule and manually forcing it to record which I should not have to do.

Thanks for the replies, I'm not quite ready to give up on it yet! It seems much more stable now that we've trimmed out some of the timers and events. I'm still amazed how these limits are still so low on relatively new equipment.

Problem #2 sounds irritating. I've specifically noticed that my Hopper will record the 2nd airing, if it blew off the original due to a conflict. I was pleasantly surprised, and somewhat impressed, as I just assumed I was going to miss that show for that day.

I didn't even realize that #2 was possible. The couple times I've had a conflict, I've always just set a manual timer (after update). I guess I should try it on some show I only mildly care about.
