DISH to partner with Aereo?

More likely a play for internet delivered channels. If Dish could provide cable channels combined with Aereo's locals over the internet they would not have to negotiate for locals. This would keep the major media companies from holding O&O channels hostage Dish might be able to form some sort of a la carte deal.

Just give me back my out of market Pittsburgh locals back already. :)

HAHA. This could be a great way to completely drop the contracts for the locals. Have a high end backbone from Aereo to Dish to stream free to air and send that stream up the satellite, then you wouldn't even need to renew the contract with any top 4.

This only works if they dare2 have the Pittsburgh locals included....... :D

They could not be sent via satellite, they would have to come via the internet. The Aereo way around the re-transmission copyrights is that each subscriber has their own antenna, own DVR and is controlling everything. That way it is the subscriber using fair use instead of Aereo providing more than an antenna rental service.

Now build dishnet Internet receivers in the Satellite dish and now people have free broadband for their locals.

It is hard to argue that it is Dish or Aereo broadcasting when it is under the control of the user and not the corporation. I am glad that the courts agree.

Although I do find Aereo's service price at $12 for locals a bit high. I know it is $8 cheaper than the welcome pack with Dish, but at least you get some more channels.

I like the idea that Dish could build the client technology directly into the Hopper and skip the re-transmission contracts completely. Wouldn't that be a fine FU to the broadcasters and a BIG plus for us consumers. My out-of-pocket would be the same, but more channels and no chance of losing the channel to a dispute.

I doubt that this will give us out-of-market channels, but a big plus all the way around. Well, except for the local broadcasters. :)

I think you all missed the loophole here.

I think Aero is leasing out micro antennas to customers, and that's how they are getting around the retransmission crap.

Go on their website and they got what looks like a computer board with hundreds of small antennas on it.

It's almost like they are leasing you a sling box hooked up to its own OTA Antenna.

Do tech's normally carry dishes with them?
