Today I had to call and lower my package down to Welcome pack for a few months, because of being Laid off my job.I am hoping it only temporary ,but who knows.Anyway I had 3 months free of BB@H.I realize that dropping my package down to Welcome pack it problably no longer free. But I cant ev en order it online as box is grayed out.I am willing to pay 10 dollars a month as I like streaming movies. Is it not allowed with welcome pack??

It's doubtful Dish makes any money on that package and most likely does not want people staying on it. If someone can not afford anything more it works out to at least keep the customer and hopefully they will get a higher package at some point. If they can afford add on packages it could be Dish would rather them get a higher package. Remember, Dish is not getting $10 for BB, they are getting some fraction of that and if keeps a customer at the Welcome package longer it may not be worth it.

I think his question is what others have asked about in the past. His actual post isn't about losing a freebie, he is willing to pay the $10.

I recently came to the end of my new customer promotional period, and when I called to take off the extras (HBO, Protection plan, etc), they actually acted like they WANTED me to remove Blockbuster. It was then I got the impression that Dish doesn't turn a profit on BB subscriptions. Could be just a wild hunch, but seemed strange that they would be so eager to remove it.

I just want the ability to purchase even if I am not on a higher package.Fortunately I came into some extra money and was able to move up to Dish America, but bb@home is still grayed out.

Might be; I'm on my 2nd round of BB for 1/2 off for 6 months promo. When the first promo ran out, I called to totally remove it (along w/2 1/2 price premiums f/6 months) & was surprised when the CSR promptly offered to renew ALL of these 1/2 off 6 month promos again. (I did NOT even bring it up myself...)
I really don't watch HBO or Showtime that much, but for 1/2 off, figured I'd just record some movies/series I do like, then watch them at my convenience.
As far as BB, I have never done the DVD's OR streaming, & have NO desire to do so, but DO like the extra channels - so $10 JUST for the extra channels is too much f/me, but $5 is OK.

They offered me 1/2 off on the HBO and Showtime, but not BB.

I also do not understand Dish's reasoning for not allowing Welcome Pack subs to add BB@Home since they did allow it at one time. I mean other premiums (thankfully) can still be added. I believe Dish Latino Basico subs and Smart Pack subs still can. In addition, Welcome Pack increased although it appears We and AMC were removed without replacements. I believe that Welcome Pack subs cannot add the Epix Mini Pack either, but they can add other a la carte offerings. By the way, I am not even a Welcome Pack sub (although I possibly would be if Dish would allow Sirius XM to somehow be in the package).

While I do understand that, I think that Dish is losing potential profit from Welcome Pack subs that would pay the extra ten bucks a month.

The $10 extra for BB@Home is a far better deal than paying $10 extra to go from the Welcome Package to the Smart Package. But I bet Dish makes more money on the Smart Package than they would on a Welcome Package/BB@Home combination. Thus, no BB@Home for Welcome Package customers.

I do not understand the continual defense of Dish? Most of the time there's an exception to the rule. This guy is doing what he can to remain a Dish customer, give him a break.
DIRT did give him a break only a couple weeks back and this complaining is how he pays back service.

I saw they are doing BB at half price, but the one problem with BB is the repetition. If you don't have a DVR, BB is an absolute must, but if you have a DVR, you don't need BB more than a month. Commercial free HD movies with that many channels for $10 is a good deal. At $5, it is a very good deal, but only for a short amount of time.
Blockbuster aint worth it even for $10. Get a netflix subscription, you will be happier.
Dude, you'd recommend getting acid dripped onto a customer's forehead over any Dish service. Your opinion is terribly tainted.
