I understand I'd have to purchase a 3rd Hopper at full price. Looks like Dish Depot is the best option. I'll assume I'd need to contact Dish, get a quote for a 2H/3J setup and mention I'll need the 3rd Hopper setup during the tech visit? Also not sure if I need to purchase any additional hardware, besides the 3rd Hopper.

** Can one of the Admins move this to the Hopper Zone? Thanks **

I would order the third Hopper and then set-up the upgrade. It can be notated on the account that you have a third Hopper that needs to be installed. Technically this would be considered a Custom Work Order and can cost $50.00 if the technician bills the account but I have not seen this charged as part of an upgrade or new installation.

Also, if I'm not mistaken, weren't the DPP33's stopped being made some time ago??? I ended up buying a new one off E-bay a few months ago...

Don't know if they quit making.g them but 2 44's will do the trick. Or shoot 2 dishes will do the same and might be less work since the 44's require power from an outlet to one port that cannot be transferred on a Hopper line. There is a way to pass voltage on a Joey line using diplexers but I don't recommend any body mentioning this to your tech unless he understands the different frequencies ranges on the cables.

In house techs carry one 33 switch and one 44 switch. At least in my area (but I think it's the same everywhere).

The 33 switches we carry are DP33, not DPP.

Maybe you were thinking DPP34 (which is basically the DP33, but DPP tech instead of DP) ?

Dude....you better go look at your inventory. 1 Dpp 44 switch and one DP 34 switch is what is on our inventory lists.

DP is Dish Pro (needs 2 lines for dual tuners, will not work with a node).

DPP is Dish Pro Plus (only 1 line for dual tuners)

Unless you are very lucky you are not carrying a DPP33 switch its a DP34.

There's no such thing as a DP33.

Understand, but since I was footing the bill for the hookup for the 3rd Hopper, I was able to get a new DPP33 pretty cheap - & I didn't have to tie up another outlet for it - especially since I keep it on a UPS w/all my receivers.

Dude....you better go look at your inventory...

Thank you for correcting him, dishman...kind of scary that these are the same people installing this stuff! Thankfully, I can do these type of installs myself...

I would think that the best thing to do is if you can afford to buy a third Hopper, then just go ahead & buy the extra 2 DPP44's that you'll need for the installation,& (after you make sure that it is notated that you'll have 3 Hoppers installed & you'll have the 3rd Hopper available along with the extra 2 DPP44's) when the installer calls to let you know that he is on the way, confirm with him the fact of your special installation so that he knows, before he drives up to your place, that that is what he is going to do.

- I did NOT have the 3rd Ho here when the techs arrived - & I was NOT even sure I'd have it in time to beat the (monthly) price increase (I did actually...)
- Why WOULD I need to buy TWO DPP44's, when the tech already installed one? (I also was using a 211k)
- I ALREADY had the DPP33 on hand; I had bought it a couple months ago dirt cheap, for another project, but ended up not needing it for that - it worked up just fine for this
- Just because someone "can afford to buy a Ho", doesn't mean that same person spends $$$ on unnecessary equipment (hint: that's why I CAN afford to buy a Ho...)

Geeze guys, what DO you have against the DPP33's; it works just fine, costs about 1/2 of the DPP44 & I do NOT have to keep more dish switches on the UPS - as I just told you above!
Is there some sort of problem with these switches? (other than E* NOT making them anymore) I actually used the diagram that someone posted here for 3 Ho's, which was easy-peasy.
I GUARANTEE you I will NOT be getting any more Ho's, so there is NO need for additional receiver ports.

Yes, I had a brain fart and reversed the 33 and 34. My bad. :( Let me blame it on the long day.

That is what I was trying to point out, that in house techs only have the 44 as an option because the other switch is DP.

Yep, see above. I confused the numbers, thanks for correcting that.

I meant that statement to the OP,that it would save time to have everything in advance(3rd Hopper & DPP44) & to make sure to confirm when the installer calls that he understands what he is going to do at the OP's home.

Also, like you said, the DPP33 is not being made anymore & not everybody has access to one. If you can't get ahold of a DPP33,then yes at least buy one extra DPP44 to make it easier for the installer. If & when I ever upgrade from my 2 ViP722k's & 1 ViP211k,I'll most likely buy my Hoppers & Joeys in advance instead of depending on Dish for everything, but that's just me.

There is nothing wrong with the 33. Infract all the guys in my office were stoked when we got em. But then somebody invented the dpp500+ effectively making the 33 obsolete. No more need for its intended purpose.

Rockstar can cure brainfarts...too bad it decreases the amount of fluid a bladder can hold...or so it seems.

My DPP33 works great with my Hopper setup. Costed about half as much as the DPP44 and saved having to plug in another power inserter.
