Dish Police back in action.

Wow that's a couple of ancient receivers! The 211 could utilize the WiFi adapter if you wanted to. I wonder how much longer Dish will allow the QPSK receivers to stay active?

Yea they are oldies but goodies for sd sets.No idea on how much longer they will keep the qpsk. They were really pushing it 2yrs ago, then they sort of toned it down.Pretty sure there are some subs with 1000 model receivers still active. If Dish wants to offer us a couple of 211 receivers to replace the 38 and 3900 I wouldn't complain.Otherwise we'll keep em till they die.

Maybe they're trying to find an excuse to drop the 3900s :p . I guess if you hold out long enough they'll be forced to give you a 322 or two 311s or something whenever the heck they finally make the transition to 8PSK.

One issue we have is older equipment that doesn't have broadband capability.I can tell you this much,if they are as rude and accusatory as they were in the past, bye bye dish.

this was an issue and why i left them in 08. i had a 622 in the house and another at the pool house. one was on a land line when i had it while the other was connected online. one day i get a call accusing me of account stacking. they didn't ask questions they just accused me of doing something i wasn't doing. so i tell dish to send one of their local installers so they can see both dvrs are on my property.i was literally 2 miles away from a dish retailer. i kept getting a reply that i could either have two separate accounts or cancel. after begging them to send someone over immediately so they could see i was telling the truth, dish insisted i was lying, i told them to shove it and cancelled after 10 years of faithful service. sold my 2 622's and 211, switched to directv. directv saw what setup i needed and it was no problem. if not for that i may have never left dish. this is why i laugh my ass off when i read around here about being faithful to your service provider  . always do what is best for you, period. too bad some have to pay the price for those who are actually account stacking. on my new property this wouldn't be the case (no pool house, no pool) but i do not have a land line and never will again. so if at the end of the year i do comeback to dish i hope this isn't an issue. if i do switch back and they ever put me through that again, i will never give them another chance.

Sounds like the Dish Audit Team are cut from the same mold as the callers from bill collection agencies. And why do these folks have to be rude?

Eric

I've said this before and it's by no means a defense of the audit dept, but this issues that they go after must be substantial in order for Dish to bother with this and when they do check, they must catch plenty of people.

From everything I've read here though, they really seem to have a presumption of guilt of everyone they call.

When a customer has an above average number of receivers on their account it's kind of a red flag to Dish. Out of the 14 million customers Dish has I wouldn't be surprised if 1 million of them have illegal accounts. Dish and Direct lose a ton of money on these accounts.

How an account can be illegal account. Plus I never understand why Dish thinks that if 1 customer have 3-4 receivers then it should be doing something wrong with it. These days most of the households have 3-4 TV easily. I have 4 TVs in my home also. So I must be doing something wrong if I ever get Dish to connect to all of my TVs then?

Thankfully never got any call from them. But as some has said...if Dish ever disconnected my box because they think I am illegal account...they will lose me as a customer & not have to worry about me going forward then.

A lot of people will have a receiver at their address and will have another receiver at their parent's, friend's, girlfriend's or boyfriend's address. That my friends is illegal. I also know plenty of people that like to use their personal account for their business so they don't have to pay the higher businesses prices. I know a bar owner that did that with DirecTV and had the NFL Sunday Ticket. He got caught after doing it for 7 years and had to pay the $7,000 fine or agree to update to a business account and sign a commitment for so many years.

If they are all connected to a phone line or broadband, when they "check in", it will indicate that they are at the same location (same phone # or same IP). If that's the case, it's not likely you'd be checked on.

As Scherrman mentioned, you can sign up with Dish and have them come out and hook up multiple TVs. As soon as they leave, take one or more of those receivers to a parent's house, cousin's house, etc, buy a used dish/LNB, hook them up, and share the cost of the bill (or the others get FREE service).

Dish will never know how many people they have really caught because they have accused innocent people of doing such things and lost probably as many innocent customers as they have guilty customers. They have to ask themselves if they have gained from those they "caught" or if it is a losing battle. The Hopper/Joey system eliminates this issue for them and is probably why they dont allow a mix of receivers on the account.

You know what adds insult to injury at least to me.They used to offer a $5 credit if all receivers were connected to a landline, they dumped that credit, furthermore they know cell phone usage has almost taken over the phone market, making it impossible for most customers to have a phone connection.

They keep doing this - clearly they gain more than they lose.

I wouldn't be so sure, back when they first started this, they lost a crap ton of customers, the complaint boards were lit up all over the web.I'll play their silly little game one more time, but at the first hint of accusations or bs I'm gone.If they are willing to let a 8 year customer and $100 per month go then so be it.

Dish is in business to MAKE money and not give away services. If you base reality on what you read on complaint boards on the internet to think that's a true picture, go ahead....

I don't agree with their tactics - don't get me wrong there. Like 'Rey' posted, he had to walk out to his pool house and apparently it took him too long, so they presumed it was not "in his house" and shut it off. That's ridiculous.

Obviously, you have never dealt with the Dish audit team.Hopefully you never will, but I do believe you would have a different demeanor towards them.Who said Dish was in the business to give away services? And,it wasn't just complaint boards, plenty of satellite and tv forums had horror stories of the audit team.

Here's what's great hall, they didn't even ask me to do anything with the other dvr. Only gave me the choice of either putting the 2nd dvr on a separate account or get rid of it. Very insulting ,so instead I got rid of them. :/ . I was treated like a criminal.

Probably an unpopular point of view, but sometime it's not about the upfront $ spent or lost, it's about the deterrent effect. This post is obviously evidence that such practices get people to talk, and perhaps deter some who may or may not chime in from the practice of account stacking. Many people probably don't realize or stop to think that this is no better than the same corporations you're complaining about setting up off shore bank accounts and outsourcing jobs to avoid taxes, higher wages, etc.

If dish really wants to fix this & not tick off legit customers they should develop & implement technology to keep this from happening. This way nobody gets hurt feelings & emotion is completely out of the equation.

If lnbs had mac addresses & were paired to the receivers that would be a good starting point. Get a bad lnb & you would need to call dish with the lnb's new mac address so they could update all receivers on that account.

On the other hand if they shut down stackers completely they might seriously hurt their bottom line. Even though it's wrong these stackers are mostly good high paying customers.

The bottom line is they shouldn't harass legit customers.
