Spoke with Raj today at Kusat. He was very helpful, talking all of the time necessary to answer my questions and complete my order.

I can't wait to get my Shaw Direct PVR system and get it setup. Some of you may have seen where I already installed the dish mount on my roof. That should speed up the installation of the dish. There is also a pair of cables that are already run up there, so I won't have to mess with that either. I'll be sure and take photos of the install and post them, if anyone has any interest in that.

Thanks to everyone who loaned me their expertise while I was doing my research for this project.

Sounds like you´re almost there, and sure share some pics of your final setup. ;)

I mounted the little grey junction box to the tower leg to contain the splices I had to make so that I could extend the cables that will connect to the Shaw dish. I don't want any water getting in to those connections. They should last a very long time if I can keep Mother Nature out of the equation. The Shaw dish mount is out of frame to the right.

The other box was too small. I didn't like the cables crammed in there and kinked. New, larger box is much more accommodating.

looks like that roof needs replacing soon ;)

It definitely does. But it hasn't leaked a drop, yet, so we're holding off. And yes, I knocked on wood after I typed that.

That box looks god, What size is it ? Is the dish on your avatar also part of your growing dish farm ? ;)

I think it measured 4x4x2, or something like that. Yes, the c-band dish is what I currently use to get CTV, and lots of other FTA. I have an old Primestar dish in the shed that I used to use to pickup the CBS Newspath feed. Haven't messed with that in forever. The trees that surround this property can sometimes make feed hunting a bit futile

Well, the system is setup. There was a bit of a fiasco with the delivery, though. Long story short, I missed the UPS truck, which led to a four-hour adventure at the UPS depot. None of this was UPS's fault, though and they were very accommodating in getting me my packages. Thank you UPS!!

Unfortunately, this means I had to assemble, install and tune the dish in the dark. I can't stress enough how important it was to follow the recommended pointing angles. I had the dish tuned and peaked to a 93 signal value in about 5 minutes, all while working in the dark.

The only problem now is that I probably won't be able to activate the system until Monday, since it was about 9:00 before the tools we're put away and everything was all setup inside the house. :-(

It would be nice if there was a preview channel that I could pickup ITC before activation, just so I could see and picture and get that warm, fuzzy feeling for all of my hard work and lugging a TV set to the roof in the dark. All of the channels I can tun to are scrambled, or I get the no signal message, probably because there's not a valid channel map. The channels I can tune to give me about a 7.8 dB reading in the setup screen, just not a picture. :(

The dish looks good up there, though. I'll post a few pics later, once there's some daylight.

As promised, here are some pics.

Photo Oct 26, 8 04 45 AM.jpg Here's the dish by itself. Pretty good for installing in the dark, eh?

Photo Oct 26, 8 05 31 AM.jpg Here's the side view.

Photo Oct 26, 8 07 04 AM.jpg Here's a front view with the tower in the foreground. For a brief moment, I panicked, hoping I hadn't mounted the dish where the tower was in the line of sight.

Photo Oct 26, 8 08 51 AM.jpg Another view with the tower slightly off to the side.

Photo Oct 26, 8 19 05 AM.jpg Signal looks good from here. Now I just need auth and I should be good to go.

Photo Oct 26, 7 06 22 AM.jpgHere's a look from the inside. I was very surprised at how small this receiver is. Especially when compared to the big ole DirecTV Genie above. Now I just have to install my VPN router in the cabinet so I can connect the PVR through a Canadian IP.

You've got a map - 4320 - line F on that screen shot. That's the map for the old quad LNB. You'll want to tell your guys that's the case, as when they activate they'll need to push the proper map for your xKu LNB.

With that map you'll only be able to tune F2 channels - I'm surprised there's not some channel that comes in w/o activation.

Good info. I'll be sure and mention it, thanks. That's why I posted that screenshot. Figured someone would have something interesting like that to share. Here's the LNB is have...

If there's a free channel up there, I'm not getting it. My guess is that's it's a brand new receiver and the map or lack of proper map is causing an issue.

Use, Ch 9 Knowledge (or the others mentioned in my PM), is ITC (from 107w) should show authorization status ZK. I´ve checked F2 listings but I don´t see (and I don´t remember) any ITC ch´s there.

Unfortunately I can't even tune to those lower channels. I guess the receiver doesn't have a map that includes those.

I had this issue when I got mine last year. There will not be a map for lower channels. There no free channel when the receiver thinks it has that old quad lnb on it. As soon as it is activated and the new code is on, it will download new software and all will be good.
