Not true.

PTAT by default records everything in the prime time block and saves it for 8 days. The tuner "can" differentiate between new and reruns when you set timer for PTAT shows. The PTAT recordings are saved as instructed in the "My Recordings" section. You can set timers correctly on the PTAT tuner 24/7 as long as you have PTAT turned on one day a week. Don't confuse the contents of the PTAT folder with the tuners capability to record as edited.

Timers set for shows during active PTAT recording are made with the PTAT start/end default times. If you want to add extra time, you can edit the timer, and on the "Daily Schedule" skip the PTAT timer and the Hopper will use a different tuner to record with that edited time.

I only have PTAT active on Saturdays, so that I can take advantage of recording up to 4 shows on the one tuner, giving me the potential of 6 recordings at a time, 24/7.

I'm aware of that, but that's not PTAT, IMO. It's more a function of the DVR itself that simply grabs saved data.

How exactly would that fit into "recording the entire 3 hour block of 4 prime time channels"? You can specify saving "only new". You can limit the number of channels. You can limit the number of active days. You can limit the number of days saved. You can turn it off. What more do you want?

I simply use the guide to set any timers for shows that I want to have saved and record only new episodes. Just like you did with the older receivers. So who cares if PTAT doesn't record only new shows. I love PTAT. Leave it on all the time. There have been several times where I wished I would have remembered to record something, and then had to remind myself that PTAT took care of it for me.

As far as I know, I've seen reruns and it appears to record the full block. These recordings also delete themselves after x amount of days. If you save the ptat series the maybe those reruns or duplicates are purged. I've never paid enough attention to that.

We have a few shows recorded by PTAT and have them tagged as "Save series" and I checked. It saves episodes whether they are new or re-runs. We have an NCIS episode recorded this week that was "First aired" in 2012.

I think that the default setting is 'New and Reruns' only if you select a show that is not new. The default is 'Only New' if the show you select is new and NOT a rerun.

I do indeed consider it a flaw when they upgrade to a fantastic new DVR but think they need to improve on something that was so easy to use before. Like the 722 drop down when you wanted to record a show. You were given simple options to either, record one episode, record all episodes, record new episodes only, or record the entire series. Now if you think the new Hopper interface is so easy why are people here in this thread offering so many different opinions (can only record the entire block and cannot differentiate between new episodes and re-runs for one). You are quite correct in your answer to the question but why should the question even need to be asked? Why not just continue to use the 722's drop down option? Sometimes the desire to do something differently is not always the best choice.

Have you tried to set up a timer on a non PTAT event? It works just the way you described and you can even press record 1, 2 or 3 times to get it to record in different fashions. I think that you are just hung up on this PTAT thing even though the way it works and its features have been explained multiple times in this thread. The 722 doesn't have PTAT so to compare PTAT to a 722 recording ability doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me.
