Best place to sign up for DISH?

I currently have FiOS and love it but contract is up and they are not willing to do anything with pricing to keep me so looking to come back to Dish. I get mailings about every week from them but wondering if there is a better place to sign up than with Dish directly? A 3rd party maybe? Looking for the best bang for my buck. I am intrigued with the Hopper and the ability to get DVR material to my Android phone to watch remotely...FiOS has nothing like this unless I want to buy Sling myself...which I don't. Thanks in advance.

If you have a good local retailer near you, sign up through them. Also check around to see if any friends have Dish, since they can get $50 off their bill and you also get $50 off your first bill if you use on of their referral codes. I believe you can use the referral codes even if you go through a local retailer, though some retailers are not very good/honest about entering them. Once you sign up, you can't get the referral deal, so make sure you let them know BEFORE you start signing up.

If no good retailer available, then go no other route than through DIRT. Send them a PM...go to the bottom of the Form page, look for logged on members in RED. They also can honor referral codes.

Two bits of GOOD advice.

I have Fios, for land line and Internet. Great, there. But I find Dish offers so much more, TV wise. You might explain how many TVs you have that you want connected to Dish, how many are HDTVs and how many need independent viewing. We can then give advice on which box or boxes to go with, and if mirroring is a good solution for you, to save some bucks. The Hopper With Sling (HWS) is the latest and greatest now, but might not be the best fit for you. Need to know more to tell. But from your post, this is the likely route you want to take.

I just looked at FIOS and their best price triple play intro offer did not impress me. Neither did their channel line up or especially their DVR.
Nothing I have seen holds a candle to the Hopper with Sling.
if you do some negotiating you can often get free hardware (more than 1HWS) and intro pricing on programming.

As was mentioned, let us know how you plan to watch and get good advice on a new set up.

Either do a local retailer (if there is one you can trust), or go through Dish (either DIRT here or calling the main number at 800-333-3474). Those mailings you get are usually from national resellers, like GoDish or Infinity Dish. Would suggest avoiding them, my opinion, and go the local reseller/retailer or the main number.

Do not use the main number over DIRT. It is just a pipeline to the CSR of the day, and we all know that is a game of roulette. OP, short of a retailer, contact DIRT. There is NO doubt you will get the best information and pricing from them.

DO NOT CALL DISH TO SIGN UP, EVER! First thing I would do is ask someone that has Dish where they signed up and if they were happy with it. I, of course, recommend going to a local retailer. Somewhere you can go to demo the product and talk to someone head to head and go to if you have issues. Now, not all retailers are great. Some retailers are just as bad as the people to talk to when you call Dish, so that's why I would ask around first.

If you are not comfortable with a local retailer or can't find one then I would contact DIRT on here. The best thing you can do is educate yourself on here about the product and find out exactly what you want first. DO NOT get talked into some crap that Dish wants you to have but you don't need. This is why I would not call Dish directly.

When I have a customer interested in signing up I prefer them to come into my store so I can talk head to head and even demo the product. The first questions I ask are what they have now and how many TVs they have. Then I like to know how many are HDTVs and if they want all of those TVs to have HD programming. I never ask what programming they want until the end because it's the least important thing when signing up, it can be changed whenever you want. Then I ask what the customer is really looking for their system to do. Do they need a DVR or Sling? Do they need to watch each TV independently? What is their budget for when the promo prices end?

After getting a good feel for what the customer wants I recommend a receiver configuration that benefits them and fits their budget. I honestly don't care what they get as long as it's what they want. Some customers only need a 222 receiver, some need a 722 and two 211s and some need two Hoppers. I like to draw out the configuration on paper so they can see how it will work and they know exactly what they are getting.

I feel this is the best way to sell Dish to a customer but Dish will tell you different. Dish will tell you that you need the Hopper no matter what you say. They may even fail to tell you about all the extra equipment fees and what your price will be after the promo is over. I know I went on for a while here but I feel it's important to know.

Good information, while the Hoppers are awsome in some cases for example a 722 might due the job, but dont think they are to be found on the Dish site

That's why I wouldn't call Dish for info. All they want to put in are Hopper systems. If the customer is not aware of other receivers then they would think that Hoppers are all Dish has to offer because that's all Dish is going to tell them about.

You you educate yourself on here and know exactly what you want then it doesn't matter as much who you sign up through. If you don't get the configuration you want just talk to another sales person. The one configuration you can no longer get is a 222 in the secondary position. You can not do it unless you actually purchase it.

For example: If you want t 4 TV setup and don't care about HD then normally you would have gone with a 722 and a 222 or two 222 receivers. This can no longer be done. You would have to go with a 722 and two 211 receivers. The monthly fees are the same for the customer but it makes for a harder install and if you wanted to mirror multiple TVs it makes it even harder yet.

Yes please avoid infinityDish.....your order will be wrong and their 50 dollar fee for set up will not be refunded if your install gets cancelled for some reason. I hate doing installs when they set up customers.

Thanks all for the good advice. I just called Verizon an downgraded my plan temporarily until I can figure out what i need. I loved Dish when I had it years ago. I keep going back and forth to possibly cut the cord entirely and just use OTA and Hulu Plus/Netflix. But then again, unsure. I like Sling and was going to buy one myself for my FiOS so I can watch my DVR content at the gym and traveling on my Android. I will have to look into Dish's website again. Its only me in the house but definitely want Sling for that reason. I would only be hooking up my living room TV, main one, and my bedroom. Will have to see what kind of a deal I can get. Was also looking into buying my own Tivo and going that route but unsure if I can DVR OTA w/o a subscription. Haven't looked into it yet...then there's the Chromecast...but that's another ball of wax. Thanks again guys!

If you signing up for Dish as a new customer don't worry about looking for the best deal. The promotion is the same no matter where you go. Worry more about getting the best service from someone.

Some retailers offer cash cards to entice new customers but they generally are not very good retailers that service. They usually do sales only, stay away.

You may want to make your decision before February so you afford the upcoming promotion changes.
