Well, that's the GOOD news. Now, for the REST of the story:

To watch some of the material, you must "log in" by linking your device (Roku or Xbox) to your TV provider and entering a code. And there is a long list of providers. Too bad Dish, DirecTV, Uverse, Fios, Cox and many others aren't listed. So the material available is somewhat limited. But History includes some stuff from H2, if you can get to it.

Translation: This is yet again a supplemental service for those that subscribe to some form of Pay TV. It will not be available via ala-carte subscription.

Same as their websites, they are locked down to authorized providers which there are not very many and probably won't be for a while, what with all the long term contracts.

Even if Time Warner is on the list (I use them for internet), they likely check what is subscribed to (and internet alone isn't sufficient).

well I downloaded the A&E one and it does have newer episodes on it....from a couple weeks ago for free
the new stuff you need to log in

But the ones I started watching are like blown up you tube videos...very compressed quality. Wonder if you log in will it be better quality?

Tried the 30-second trailer for Vikings and the picture quality was WORSE than YouTube!

Time Warner is not one of their partners either...

I was quite pleased with the limited A/E selection.. there's enough free content there to keep people entertained for quite a while. Am going to watch the Bonny and Clyde mini-series over the weekend.

hopefully the picture quality is better than the couple shows I started to watch ;)

I was looking for "Your Bleeped up Brain" on History/H2. It wasn't there. I didn't try to stream any of the other offerings. I'll give it a quick shot tonight and post a quality report.

Watched a H2 show last night (how the states got their shape) and quality was excellent. Hard to see any difference from a HD2 broadcast. But my Roku is on the bedroom TV, which is only 32".

Kinda like a tease, they give you a little, hoping you'll subscribe to watch the rest. The picture quality didn't look bad to me, but my eyesight is also very poor. I wouldn't have noticed unless it was real bad, like pixelated or similar. History looks to be the best of them to me, as to the amount of free watchable content.

Just tried A&E and History, no login required and every show I tried worked. I am on TW for internet but use Dish for tv.

I wonder if they discover the ip address as TW and is allowing the content without a login? You could find a friend that might give you login info that has a service.
