Right now, Dish has Al Jazeera America in SD only. I believe that this is because of the old Dish and Current TV carriage agreement which ALJAM inherited when they bought Current. Does anybody know how long that agreement has to go before it expires? I abhor SD.

I hope they drop it altogether at that time. I 'abhor' al jazeera.

PS: Your avatar is pretty cool. :)

A high school friend of mine recently left the PBS News Hour to go work for AJA. I'd like to watch. But, I just can't look at Dish SD for any extended period.
There was a time when SD was bearable, before the low bitrates and overcompression due to squeezing so many channels into limited bandwidth.
I remember when it happened - after they added local channels.

Remember folks --- friendly reminder of our No Political Talk here at SatelliteGuys...

If the channel is not your cup of tea we respect that, move on there is no need to badmouth a channel or get political about a channel because you don't like it.

Thanks for your understanding.

you don't even know what it is, do you!?!

I know what it is, I have seen it and I don't like it. I must share that opinion with a lot of other Americans as it's ratings demonstrate. And let's leave it at that.

Personally, I love the channel. I love their take on the news, quite refreshing.

I hope the channel is in HD soon.

I thought they were just now phasing in HD equipment.

Does the channel even have an HD feed anywhere?

I understand Time Warner Cable has an HD feed available, as well as other cable carriers, I understand as OP mentioned it has to do with the Current tv agreement. (BTW I seem to remember that TWC was one of the few carriers offering Al Jazeera English, which is the international version that is no longer carried since AJAM was launched in the US market).

The cable carriers with HD feed, fell under a new agreement.

I was kind of surprised to see that at least Dish updated the name Current tv with Al Jazeera America on their website.;)

For a brand new channel out of the gate, it's not doing horribly. It's on limited systems, and apparently only in SD on most.

Once they add carriers, and go 100% HD, the word of mouth will probably cause a bit of a boost. People are tired of the crap that is broadcast news in the US. It's either agenda-driven extreme viewpoints like Fox and MSNBC or dumbed down news for idiots like CNN. (Although, they're all pretty dumbed down.) And, they all spend far too much time on fluff and nonsense (Beiber, Kardashian, etc).

There is a solid core audience for NEWS. Actual NEWS. News about newsworthy things. In depth. With substance. And, as soon as they make it palatable for my eyes with HD, I'll be jumping all over it.

I think it's an interesting channel.
You know what slant there going to take
Watching it.
I love watching foreign news. My favorite
Is Euronews.

Not a brand new channel, it took over the huge sub base that had Current TV. Their ratings are worse than terrible and there's no way of spinning that.

I'll agree that MSNBC and FOX are agenda driven and CNN is well, CNN. I like real news too, IMHO RT is a very good channel. I just don't like al jazeera. I think their agenda is the worst out there.

That's of course my opinion and that's probably all we should say about that as to not incur Scott's wrath. :)

i never watched al jazeera so i would or would now want it in HD.eventually every channel will be in HD.
