Dish 500 Satellite vs. Dish 1000 Satellite Dish

I have a dish 500 24" inch dish. If I upgrade to the 1000 turbo eliptical dish, can anyone tell me if I can just swap out the dish or do I need to install a new LNB bracket etc.? I am having trouble with the HD station transponders fading in and out and want the easiest possible solution without having to repoint my LNB.

Thanks!

DISH 500 is a 20" dish that looks at 110 & 119. Assuming you want western arc the 1000.2 WA dish would be the replacement it looks at 110/119 & 129 so it would be aimed slightly different than a DISH 500. If you want maximum signal capture then you want a DISH 1000+(plus). 1000.2 is 19x24 and 1000+ is 23X 30.9.

The mast is the same outer diameter.

It sounds like you may be barking up the wrong tree. Rather than asking if you can get away with something, I suggest you tell us what it is you want to accomplish and let us take it from there. Collectively, we can be a pretty creative bunch if you're not hell bent on doing it one way.

Wouldn't a dish 500 work on eastern arc to pickup 61.5 and 72.7?

It will work, but signal levels on EA are already lower than WA.

Since the D500 lnb spacing does not match the satellite spacing of 61.5 and 72.7 you are asking for rain fade and other signal strength problems.

Here is the issue I am having. I have BEV service that I am receiving in Michigan, well within the footprint of both the 91 and 82 satellites. I have had the service for around 10 years and never had issues with signal strength or transponders cutting in and out. About 6 months ago the signal from all 91 and 82 transponders started fading in and out. It gradually got worse and worse until it was no longer watchable. I lose the signal and get the "Please standby for the satellite signal" message every 10 seconds. I had a Dish Network 500 dish with a dual lnb. I have two BEV 9242 receivers that are probably around 6 years old. Here is what I did to try and detect where the problem was. I put up a new 500 dish and a new dual lnb - didn't work. I ran a new cable directly from the dish to the receiver (tried both receivers individually) - didn't work. I then thought that maybe the 500 dish was no longer big enough to catch both signals (because of the reported satellite wobble), so I bought a new Winegard DS 2077 30" Dish Network Satellite Dish (DS2077) to use in conjunction with the 500 (pointing one at 91 and one at 82). I tried pointing the new 30" dish first to the 91 satellite. I get great signals on all transponders (75-90 range) but it takes about 5-10 seconds to lock onto the transponder and when watching a station the signal still cuts in and out. I can't find a signal at all from the 82 satellite, probably because it is taking so long to lock into a transponder. At this point I have no idea what to do next. I figure it can't be a problem with the receivers, since I am getting the same issue from both (unless both are corrupt, damaged or out of date). Does anyone have any idea if this is a dish issue. lnb issue or a receiver issue or what I can do to fix the problem? Do the receivers need a firmware update? It says my software version is V195.

Yes.

Used to be you needed a second dish in the Saint Louis market to pick up two of the local channels from 61.5 and we used a 500 dish for this with a DishPro single on the 119 side of the Y bracket. Been a long time so I forget the skew and elevation settings. On a Legacy system you could use an old Dish 300 if the customer already had one or even a DirecTV dish. They were called "Must Carry" on the work orders. Then when HD started to come out the HD package channels came in in 119 but the locals were on 61.5 so all HD systems for a time required two dish 500s for install.

Satellite Guys has a forum Canadian Satellite Services, post your problem there they will have more experience than you will find in the DISH forum.
