DISH to Deliver Longhorn Network

That's a good question. The problem is they didn't upgrade all of them. They left out the 27/28/3700 38/3900 47/4900 models.Lot of customers around this area still have those receivers.
Yikes. I can't imagine how bad the image must look from them hooked up to a flat-screen via composite, or worse, via coax. I get the chills just thinking about it.

If Longhorn and SEC networks aren't being treated as RSNs just like B10 and PAC12, then I am against this news as well.

It would be silly to have Longhorn on nationally.

Too bad Disney doesn't own MSG. Then our NY contingent would get it back too... and on 120+!

I'd be disappointed if Longhorn was full-time HD and Pac12 was not.

It's not a Channel I am eagerly awaiting but no matter where it's placed. ..Our bills will go up. ..now dish just has an excuse as to blame disney. ..If it goes up I'll pay and I am welcoming the new disney espn channels

We all will make our own choices based on what is good for us

I'm sure disney made sure this would not be placed in a tier where there is no chance if it being watched by a lot of people

I do not see why this and the other college sports nets would not be placed in with the RSN's...Where they belong. Right where only those specifically looking for the channel will find it.

Because in this case, it's owned by ESPN and if it was only offered in the longhorns region, it wouldn't allow ESPN the most exposure to air their commercials.

But if umm... Disney charged more for the content... wouldn't that like, oh I don't know... be a viable excuse for raising rates?

RSNs shouldn't be forced nationally. The Longhorn network on 120+ makes as much sense as PAC-12... unless that is only an actual RSN and available only on 120+ for those in the state of Texas. Has that been established yet?

I honestly can't get over the fact that a single college has its own channel now. It is bad enough the conferences are getting their own.

This will be their third(?) year with Longhorn Network.

Does anyone have numbers on what this new Disney/Dish deal is going to cost per month, per subscriber?

Probably more than it will be worth.

Longhorn Network = big freakin' deal. I live in Detroit. Couldn't care less. Same with SEC. I sure as hell don't want to pay for those. I foresee a huge rate increase for lots of programming I will never watch.

Paying for or being paid to broadcast?
I would be very suprised if Dish was being paid for BYUTV.

The only thing different between these two channels is that BYUTV is being run directly by BYU as a non-profit entity while Longhorn is very much a for-profit channel run by ESPN. And I would bet that Longhorn is much more expensive than BYUTV. If I had to guess, BYUTV is probably only a few cents a month per subscriber while Longhorn is 10 to 20 cents a month. The original amount that ESPN was asking cable companies was 40 cents a subscriber and they didn't get any takers at that price.

Yes it is an excuse to raise rates which I have no problem with...but dish can now say that because of the Disney agreement is why they went up...I think with or with out Disney rates were going to increase one way or another
