Pizza chain Sbarro files for bankruptcy

Pizza chain Sbarro LLC has filed for bankruptcy protection for the second time in three years after struggling with too much debt and fewer customers in malls that house many of its restaurants.

Sbarro needs to abandon the mega-mall concept and start concentrating on suburban strip mall locations. The suburbs are generally where the money is since folks are vacating the crime-ridden city malls and choosing to shop/dine at upscale lifestyle open-air strip malls. Not sure how good Sbarro is now but they were pretty good about 7-8 years ago - the LAST time I set foot in the downtown mall close to where I live. I stopped going to this mall when your odds of getting accosted/mugged became higher than getting a good slice of pie.

I never really liked sabarro food. local pizza shops had better tasting food

In a mall food court, there are so many other, more appealing options, I rarely eat at Sbarro's.

I did too but to get their pizza we had to be visiting malls. I'm not into hanging in large crowds often.
