I called Directv over the weekend about my HR34 to see if they could do something about the HR34 being so slow in displaying the guide and basically being so slow to everything. Tech. support told me that they were aware of the issue and were working on a software update to fix the problem. Since they were aware of the issue, there was nothing she could do about it and suggested to just wait for the fix.

Just wanted to share this with others that have the same problem.

Unfortunately, it sounds as if you got the stock answer.

That's what I thought. I'll try to call them again when I get a chance. She kept going through her notes and took a long time to get back on the phone but I think you're right. :)

I highly suggest investigating the cutting edge section of this site. Last week's is truly the best software I have experienced on the HR34. The week before had terrible audio and lag issues but I would investigate that and post there if you have questions.

This IS a software issue, caused by an update about three months ago. Seems to be fixed in the latest beta (CE) software, but no idea when it will be rolled out nationally.

LOL

They been fixing this for months and for months it been getting worst.

LOL. I don't visit Satguys like I used to, so didn't know this has been going on for a while. My receiver has always been pretty bad but in the last few months it got worst, it's just plain horrible to watch TV with that receiver.

I may try the beta software.

May be too late for me, as I have gotten accustom to the lousy Genie response.

I've had the HR34 for over 2 years, it's worse now than when I got it. What's the old saying for doctors....do no damage? Beyond frustrating!

Fortunately I'm lucky enough to have a Google fiber install next month. After 17 years with D*, this is why customers leave, ummm, dummies.

Understandable if you have a good alternative. BTW, very few people have such bad technical issues that they leave their provider.

I wish I had fiber in my area. I have thought about cancelling but the alternatives are worst, Comcast and Dish. :(

So Directv won't offer you a deal to stay? Maybe you can get the HR-44. I know there's no promises for one but worth a shot.

Hate to say it after 17 years with DIRECTV, but I'm not interested in staying. Great technology in the 1990's & 2000's, and the ability to get the NFL ST was state of the art. But times change as well as technology.

I understand I'm in a great position with the ability to get Google Fiber - I'm probably a 1 percenter from that perspective (wish it was income though). A direct connect from my house to the ISP (not a neighborhood hub) running at 1GB, a fixed monthly payment for 5 years ($120/month for tv and internet excluding premium channels), 8 DVR recordings at the same time (like I'd ever use that), and I've heard those Google people are pretty good with software - pretty much a no brainer.

Appreciate the suggestion, if I was staying, I'd be all over an upgrade to a HR44, and DIRECTV would take care of me (probably for a commitment, never was sure what triggered that and didn't really care).

I actually enjoyed watching people bitch about satellite service, when it was top of the line for quite a while. We'll see where this goes, my luck, I'll end up moving to a warmer climate and be back - just fortunate - for now.

Good luck with your Google TV ....

Just looked into the google TV ... nice website, however it looks like it doesn't come with any channels .... that must suck. Do you have to watch EVERYTHING off the internet ?

Just wanted to update this thread, so there's definitely a software issue with the HR34 receivers and Directv is also working on a fix. I downloaded the CE software on Saturday and the CE software fixes the issues the receiver is having. So now we just have to wait for the fix to be pushed to all receivers (there's hope :)). I went to the other site to check and there's a thread dedicated (actually a sticky) to this issue.

This CE is great. I wonder what they will screw up when they push it nationally?

I wish they would hurry up and fix it, last night it would take 60-90 seconds for the guide to populate. Even skipping past commercials it sometimes gets stuck for a minute and won't let you do anything until it catches up. I find myself using my Roku more and more now due to the ongoing problems with the HR34. Most network shows we watch are from CBS anyway, and Amazon Prime has them up the next day.
