Any Major Channels not offered in HD?

The only two cases I saw it in HD out side of Starz was with bb@home but they changed that a while back. Can we get a dirt rep to tell us about channel 340?

I'm not a dirt rep, but I'm looking at 340 right now in HD. I have the Top 250 with no premiums.

Empirical evidence at its best!

Guess the currently posted channel listing is just inaccurate on this item. 340 definitely is not shown as being part of the AT 250.

It is confirmed by dish, it comes in 250 hd add on. Which I couldn't find listed in the website. The one currently in bb@home is the suspense344

FWIW, my particular interest is in TWC vs Dish. Not really concerned about Direct (although this information may be of use to others).

Just a note - Encore has been part of the top 250 or whatever that package has been called through the years from the very begining of HD. At the time there was a lot of confusion because DISH listed it but failed to make it clear that channel was only in HD. So those with SD, which at that time would be the vast majority were complaining they were not receiving it. When I added HD back then it showed up. I suppose it could have been changed at some point, but I have always had it.
Here is the oldest post I could find on this site that talks about it, I found older on the other site.

Epix & Dish in Talks

Why it's not listed in the package is anyone's guess.....

two more to add.................Ovation & Fusion are also in HD on Direct, but not Dish

What's your point?? HUB, RFD and GSN just off the top of my head are not in HD on Direct TV. RFD and GSN I happen to watch, Ovation and Fusion never. And as mentioned no Pac-12.

what's your point............that your opinion or the channels you watch are more important than mine:mad:..............I watch Outdoor channel & Fox Movie & they aren't HD either............thought that's what this thread was for compairison

Yes, that is the point, more important to me. And your opinion is more important to you than mine to you. So cherry picking channels DISH does not have doesn't serve a purpose when saying the competitor has it, when the competitor does not have some HD channels either. And it isn't always what channels each has, it's what channels you want in HD.

Since you mention it, thread wasn't to make a list of what DISH doesn't have to what DIRECT has, it started about TWC and DISH. OP even nicely reminded us of that.

You can post what you want of course but simply listing what DIRECT has that DISH does not doesn't seem to mean much on it's own.

I'm still exploring moving from TWC to Dish. Currently waiting for confirmation of DSL speeds from Windstream which could kill the deal if not adequate. But anyhoo...

I was reading the Disney/XD thread, where apparently at least some Disney channels aren't being offered in HD. That makes me wonder if there are other significant gaps in Dish's HD coverage? In other words, are there 'major' channels, that are typically available in HD (such as I have now with TWC) that are not available in HD through Dish?

I'm looking to get the Top 250 lineup, to effectively give me what I have with TWC, and cover a few channels we want that aren't available in the Top 200.

I've found what seems to be conflicting information from different channel lineups on Dish's website, making it difficult to answer this question. I'd hate to make the switch, and discover significant gaps in HD coverage.

Thanks.

Don

I have Windstream for internet and I don't have any complaints. I'm able to get up to 12Mbps but most people in my town are only able to get 6Mbps. Here at work I believe we only have 3Mbps and it works just fine.

Thanks for the post and information. With TWC, I'm "used to" 15mbps or more down (1mbps up), so would hate to scale back from that, although I'm glad it's working out for you. I am curious though - I would imagine that being limited to 0.768 mbps upload would be an issue when trying to stream video from your Hopper using Sling (assuming you have one). If you do, how well does this perform? I would be concerned about buffering, poor stream (I have enough poor stream problems already!:biggrin).

Any others using HWS, with less than 1mbps uplink? How well does it work?

And for what it's worth, just this morning, local Windstream personnel confirmed the availability of 24 up and 4 down, at my location, so that obstacle is apparently gone.

Now I just have to decide what to do!

Appreciate all the help and information here!

In my house I have two Hoppers, one of them with Sling, three iPads, two iPhones, two laptops, a PC and my PS3 all connected to my internet. They are not all using it at the same time but generally there are up to three going at once. My son watches Youtube videos on his iPad a lot. My wife and I use the internet on our phones a lot an I'm on my laptop a lot. Last night I watched a show on my iPad using the DishAnywhere app and it stopped a couple times for a very short period but it can be a little spotty upstairs for me sometimes.
