Two Year Contract Buyouts- Consumer Beware

Wow, those current DirectTV ads are the sleasiest ads ever. Rob Lowe should be ashamed of himself for being in them.
(and I'm not a prude) Wife said the same thing to me without me bringing up the subject.

Serious? My friends and I think they are hilarious.

I guess this thread turn out to be Dish vs Cable,
even though I'm with Directv doesn't mean I'll be only loyal to that company and no one else
every provider bring something to the table as far as offering and price, and people would go for whatever is cheaper long term, and because of disputes and price hikes people would switch as well or cord cut

Bottom line there's always options for everybody as long as it doesn't break the bank.

Those ads are so contradicting. Amazing how they always fail to mention to their customers how they get their own programming, SATELLITE. I love the DirecTV ads that always bash cable. DirecTV has the best marketing department.
Yes, but the size the cable company uses is far greater and less likely to have the same problem that a DBS system will have. However, the one I always thought was over the top is where two sats crash in to each other.

I like the ones where it shows the homeowner up on his roof messing with the dish and he falls off. They look like those stupid infomercials where the actors are just terrible.

Instead of Painfully Awkaward Rob Lowe, they need Creepy Pedo Rob Lowe to say "You wait here, I'm going to head to the political convention to see if I can pick up a 16 year old"

(for those too young to remember, 1988, DNC, Atlanta GA)

Oh, come on, she looked 18. I recall that tape being leaked and all I can say is OMG!!!

Although I would laugh, I could definitely see parents of pedophilia getting mad, and just for giggles GLAAD as well. They are twice as strong as a trash bag.

Simply ask for the V.P of programming followed up by a letter. No Problem! I called for my neighbor, and being a customer since 1996, I had no problem and actually got offers to stay. He was delighted and decided to stay.

I can do without all the Turner channels. I only watch one or two shows on all those channels and I can get the show off the internet.

I would be frustrated with the loss of TNT and TBS, but I would get over it by watching one of my hundreds of other channels, since almost all channels have similar programming somewhere else. Worse case scenario, I read more books. Even things like football and wrestling, I can easily Google results with major play details, or just go hang out with family for a day and get a free lunch or dinner from the grille in the process. So small loss with channels, huge gain in my wallet, and family ties.

I also remember switching Primestar customers over and it stating on the Primestar bill to be aware of Dish Network dealers trying to switch them over to their service.

Primestar was a perfect example of this.

They stopped sending our customer bills, then Dish said they would accept the printed TV guide that prime star would send out because it had the customer information on it.

Then prime star started putting different names on the TV guides to make it difficult for dish to pay on the conversion.

Finally Dish said it was acceptable as long as the address matched.

If Dish won't send you a bill itemizing the charges and spelling out the cancellation fee in writing, then I guess there is no cancellation fee to bill you.

Cancel your credit card, and until they can send you an itemized statement write your attorney general and let them take it up with Dish on your behalf.

All this is, is a screw tactic because you cancelled your dish account and switched providers.

If they can't send you a final itemized bill with the cancellation fee spelled out, make them eat the cancellation fee themselves.

Not saying this because I hate Dish, but I say this for any provider who uses this tactic to prevent you from having proof of canceling to get repaid on an early termination fee.

Btw, Dish will do anything to stick it to a customer for canceling. From trying to make you climb on your roof to send back the LNB, to charging you to ship back equipment after canceling, no other provider does that.

Why is it on a Dish mover they don't ask you to climb on your roof to return the Lnb, or charge you shipping when you upgrade equipment. Yet when you decide to cancel, now they want their equipment back at your expense.

Makes no sense but to screw customers on the way out.

And screwed customers never come back as a new customer . They also tell everyone that they know about the negative experience and they tell someone, an so on and so on.....

They sure do come back. Once they get screwed by the provider they switched to. I've had customers get pissed and Dish and leave only to come back a couple years later saying that DirecTV or Mediacom screwed them over even more. Every provider has their own problems with customers.

Not that I agree or disagree with either side, but from a logical standpoint, it's of none of Dish's concern or care if another company pays for you to leave them. Their only care is going to be recouping lost money. Any deals you had with someone else, will be 100% irrelevant to them.

Is there something wrong with that?

No, and absolutely no where did I say there was.
I asked for some clarification about the reason for the thread because there were a couple of things that I was confused about and the OP offered clarification in his reply to my question.
I guess something was confusing to you too.
Oh wait, it's been a while but I get what you are trying to do...awe bless your heart, I guess you were hoping for some ulterior motive...

I opted out of my dish network Contract sometime around two months ago. If you do the same, do so with your eyes wide open. In my experience, up to this point, it has been impossible for me to get Dish to send me an itemized bill stating the buy out amount. On numerous occasions I have asked for an itemized bill to be sent either by way of email or mail. And I have received nothing from them at all. I believe they MAY BE doing this, because Dish is well aware that some cable companies are offering potential customers a buy out program, where they are willing to pay the remaining early termination fees in order to get customers to switch over to their service.

I don't know if it is Dish's policy to make a buy out opportunity as miserable of an experience as possible for customers, who decide to leave them or not, but, I do think it is in people's best interest to know that this whole thing is an extremely difficult experience. I have had my cable company document every time that I have attempted to get this buy out documented and in my hand. It appears that Dish may have dragged their feet every step of the way up to this point in my opinion. If you are wanting to buy out of your contract, think long and hard before you do so. You will probably end up paying the fee first and then having the cable company refund your cost well after 30 days of your leaving Dish. This is costly at least for a time, since Dish will take the funds from your credit card account, if you are on the auto pay plan. And you will be out the buy out cost until Dish eventually MUST send you a bill. It's just the way it is. I am not the only one having such a hard time getting Dish to cooperate. The customer service agent from the Cable company that I am now with dealt with 4 people today that are in my exact same situation as me. Please, if you are leaving Dish for the sake of a buy out program BEWARE. You will probably be making a great many phone calls to Dish to get this thing done. It is not an easy to accomplish task. Yet, the good news is, eventually it does get done! It's just a pain getting there.
Real easy. Take $17.50 ( I think) per month you have left on your deal. Write a check payable to Dish and mark the check "Paid in full"...Send it certified mail. Of course you'll want to write a letter to accompany the check stating you are hereby abiding by the terms of your agreement with Dish and are buying out the remainder of your contract. CC "ceo@Dish.com" the letter.
Once Dish deposits the check, your deal is deemed paid in full. Oh, send their equipment back to them. Include the remotes. Suck it up and pay for the shipping yourself. Send it UPS and use ONLY an official UPS Store. make sure you get the tracking numbers.
Use the DIRT team members on here as a resource.

I now have all of the information that I need to participate in the Buy Out Program. I've sent it on to the Cable Company. If I would have known what I know now in the beginning of this whole process, I would never have taken the Cable Company up on their offer. There were far too many phone calls before reaching the outcome that I now have. But now that it is nearing completion, I will also say, I am glad that everything worked out. Patience paid off. As I said earlier, eventually they MUST send a person a bill, which is exactly what happened in my case. Will I ever go back to dish? Never is a very long time. I just know that I'm satisfied with where I am at now. Good luck to all of you. Now, I'm going to go enjoy some t.v.
