Been a Dish customer for many moons- over 10 years- I currently have a VIP 622 in living room and a VIP612 in the bedroom. I watch mainly local channels and home/cooking channels. I am paying 80 dollars a month in Dish. Wondering if it's time to upgrade to some new technology. I have: nice surround system with a programmed Universal remote (I know I will have to pay the price for my local entertainment installer to come reprogram it for about 100 dollars) I have Netflix, wifi, etc. Just wonder what benefits I would get and the cost of upgrading to some newer technology. Also, wondering if it would be worth it to wait for the SlingTV before I do anything. I do have an outdoor mounted HD antenna for locals. Just don't currently use it. HELP??

Honestly, I would recommend the Hopper/SJ/Joey. 5 tuners, can record 8 channels, if you have the PTAT going, and it has a Netflix app on it. In addition, if you wanted to move some of the shows to a mobile device(maybe a cooking show to a tablet and take into the kitchen for easy access).

You can also connect an External Hard Drive to your 622 and/or 612 and copy recordings to it before doing the Hopper upgrade. The Hopper will be able to read/play/transfer those shows so you would not lose them.

Help? PTAT? I have a DVD player that has Netflix. Any idea on cost of upgrade?

Would not even have to do that with Dish Anywhere.

Janis is already paying a whopping $80/mo., I can see what the bill would be with the tech upgrades. Janis, just tell 'em you're mad about Fox and negociate a great package.

FWIW, I have Vip722K, a splitter to a bedroom and pay $63/mo. which includes taxes/junk fees. Been a loyal Dish customer for 16 years. Am about fed up though.

IOW, do your homework and that includes a call to Direct. I'm getting 2 Genies which means recording/watching like 4 programs at once, PiP, 130+ channels (Select), 1.5 hrs. of live recording which includes pause/rewind as opposed to Dish's 1 hour and other bennies. 3 mos. of premo teasers.....$47/mo. for one year, $57/mo. after that. Add taxes/fees and it's about $51/mo.

Also if you want the best of the best regarding value, tech which includes all the streaming, Pandora, etc. buy the OPPO DVD player. Nothing on the market can touch it for the price and image quality.

Do your homework, make some calls!

Lol. I got yelled at for being a grammar and spelling nazi. I was going to let it be. And that was all from my iPhone. Haha. It likes py instead of pay and pud instead of paid for some reason.

Since you mentioned considering Sling TV, I don't know if it will include local channels. Just a couple of weeks ago, Dish was suggesting it would not include them.

if it would be worth it to wait for the SlingTV before I do anything.

I do have an outdoor mounted HD antenna for locals.
Again, with the Sling TV scenario, that antenna may be useless.

Based on what you said in your post, all you need is a Hopper (main room) and a Joey (to replace the 612). It will likely cost you ZERO as long as you commit to 24-months with Dish. You can also use that antenna as a) a backup for local channels (during an outage, for example) and b) pick up sub-channels.

Wait a minute here. I think you can save a bundle by downgrading your channel package without bothering with a hardware upgrade or a new commitment. Or do you want the latest/greatest hardware too? What channels are you looking to keep?

With AT120 ($55/mo - yes, I know there's lower packages) and the receivers (fees), add in taxes and what not, they could be in the high-$70 range already.

Something is not right with this. I just did the 2-room Genie setup on their website with Select and while the first year is indeed $47/mo. ($20 programming, $27 equipment fees), the next year and afterward it jumps to $77/mo. ($50 programming and $27 equipment fees).

Don't know what to tell you. I do know that one's credit report carries a lot of weight and ours is about as good as it gets. Having said that, you've raised a flag. They told me it would go up only $10/mo. after one month. I'll check it out.

Is your equipment wired or wireless? Perhaps that's what's going on. Mine is wired.
