Need an answer from a DIRT individual.

I live in Albuquerque. Dish does not provide me Fox Sports Arizona as one of my standard RSNs (they provide me Root RM and Altitude). As such, I don't naturally get Coyotes games. I have Center Ice. However, all Coyotes games are blacked out. If I have the multi-sport pack, all Coyotes games are still blacked out. So how in the heck am I supposed to watch Coyotes games?

Dish has a long history of improperly assigning sports territories, and thus blacking out areas that should be seeing games. There have been countless posts like yours going back many years.

I'll hazard a guess that all of your friends with DirecTV and/or cable/fiber are getting the games just fine.

Indeed they are. Anyone with Comcast here gets Fox Sports Arizona and gets Coyotes games just fine. Dunno anyone with DirecTV to check that one.

Get a different provider?

It's sad that it would have to come to that as opposed to Dish doing what they're supposed to.

Do you know what sports channel is carried on your local cable? If it's Sports Arizona, then that is the problem.
Here in upstate NY, MSG has exclusive rights to the Sabres. It's on TWC but not Dish. Since only MSG can carry most Sabre games in our area, Center Ice considers us as In Market and therefore has to black out Sabres broadcasts.
I feel your pain.

Fox Sports Arizona, Altitude, Root Sports Rocky Mountain, and SEC are all local RSNs that local cable carries. Fox Sports Arizona is carried by Dish, but Dish doesn't give me that RSN for some reason. If I get the multi-sport pack I can get Fox Sports Arizona but Coyotes are blacked out. But I can have Center Ice at the same time as the Multi-Sport pack and the Coyotes are blacked out on both channels.

Your caught in a catch 22. SA has exclusive rights In Market to the Coyotes by contract with the NHL. And since cable carries SA, you are considered to be In Market, no one can broadcast the games, even in the Multi Sports package. Similar situatins have come up before on the forum. Sucks doesn't it.

That's not how it's supposed to work. Typically if you are considered in market for a team but Dish doesn't provide you with that RSN by default getting the Multi-sport pack will solve your problems. Dish doesn't have a similar tool so I used Directv's RSN lookup for Des Moines Iowa.

They get CSN Chicago and FS Midwest by default there. If they the get sports pack they also get FS North with the Twins, Brewers, Timberwolves, and Wild all available without blackouts. They are considered in market for the FS North teams but they don't get that RSN unless they have the Multi-sports pack. In Iowa's case the Minnesota Wild games would be blacked out on Center Ice but the much cheaper Multi-sport pack would get them those games.

I suspect that Dish is doing something wrong here. If you are in market the games shouldn't be blacked out with Multi-sport. If you are not in market they shouldn't be blacked out on Center Ice. Dish is doing something wrong if they are blacked out with both packages. If you post your Zip code or check out that website I linked to you should be able to see what teams are available in your area.

I have the same problem with CSN-Philly. Blackout rules apply even if you do not have channel to get games.

Both of these examples are a completely different situation. Dish doesn't carry any of the channels you guys mentioned. You are right when you say that blackout rules still apply when your provider doesn't carry a channel. Dish does carry FS Arizona though. He just lives in an area where Dish doesn't include it by default.

Sometimes TV markets extend out of the state so you can be considered in market even if Dish doesn't automatically provide you with the RSN. Getting the multi-sport pack would give you the RSN and Dish shouldn't black out people that are in market once they have access to the channel.

And that is the problem. Dish often does not provide the RSN that a subscriber is entitled to receive.

What is most likely happening here is that Dish did not pay the extra money that FS Arizona wanted to provide Coyotes games to residents of New Mexico. Therefore Coyotes games are blacked out in on FS Arizona on Dish in NM. But since you are still in the Coyotes home area, you can't watch their games on Center Ice, and the games on NBC SN may be blacked out as well.

Unfortunately Dish does this quite a bit. For example six MLB teams claim Las Vegas as a home area (Giants / A's / Dodgers / Angels / Padres / Dbacks) but Dish only pays the $$$ for two teams. The other four teams are blacked out on the RSNs and blacked out on MLB.tv. In my own situation Dish was not willing to pony up more $$ for the Big Ten Network when Rutgers and Maryland were added to the conference, so all Rutgers games are blacked out for me. (Not that I care, just sayin.)

While searching, I ran across an article from the Albany fish wrapper. Guy was complaing that MSG in Albany shows Buffalo hoickey the NYC hockey teams are much closer to Albany.
