I recently helped two friends set up their 211 receivers for ota recording. Both have a large home antenna with signal quality 85-100. Both have had EHDs installed for a long time and working properly. I also hooked up our 211k in our RV for ota recording and we too have had an EHD for a long time working properly. We have great signal quality too. All of us are able to watch ota channels perfectly but when recording even just an ota by itself the recording is very glitchy and basically unwatchable. All three receivers are on L558 firmware version. This appears to me to be a receiver firmware issue of some kind. I've looked around in the forums but haven't seen anything regarding this issue. If anyone can shed any light on what might be wrong I'd appreciate it.

OTA broadcasts are less compressed than the same channels delivered via satellite, so as a consequence they will require more bandwidth from the disk. Now I think, but I don't know, that even a 5400rpm disk should be adequate for 3 streams (two tuners recording plus playback). Regardless, any issue with the disk will be manifest first on OTA recordings, so that is why I'm suspicious of your disk, or it's connection. USB 1.1 disks (if any exist) won't hack it. Very long or funky USB cables might also be at fault.

But it's hard to believe that all 3 of you have this same issue. So maybe the latest firmware broke something as you suggested above.
