DISH Guarantees $250 Savings to Satellite Pay-TV Customers Who Switch

It's called "Marketing". It's like offering introductory promo pricing, or smartphones for $99. No different.

No sense in wasting time replying to him. I believe Scott blocked him now. Even if he wasn't blocked I don't think he'd understand yet since he seems to be so blinded by his hatred.

Interesting to note that while it appears that not many will get a piece of the $250 because of the rules, I just got a 'come back' from Direct offering new/returning customer pricing plus a flat $200 gift card. This is the second email I've gotten with the same offer since I cancelled them 2 weeks ago.

Makes you wonder which is really desperate, but frankly with the loss of net subs both have been seeing I'd say the answer is both of them.

Technically Dish does offer bundling but not near as well as how the cable companies do it. In a lot of areas a customer can bundle their TV service with a local phone company. This allows them to get on bill with their TV, internet and phone and they get a small bundled discount.

The bundling with both Dish and Directv Is a joke.

It's not a Bundel, but more like here is an Internet provider so you don't get in bed with the cable.

They need combined billing and better coordination with the install.

Dishnet witeline is combined billing, and the techs install the TV and the modem for the phone and Internet gets shipped as plug n play. Granted it's CenturyLink(Qwest) service... And people sometimes do not know which line is active in their house. Makes it pretty easy.

Why? Because they already know your credit is good and you have demonstrated you pay your bills.

It's cheaper to give you a $200 gift card, to someone they already know instead of Joe Six pack who needs some tv because he didn't pay his cable bill

The problem is that the coverage is limited.

Works great if you meet all the right criteria and can actually get service.

I love selling comcast, such a large area and they already got the addresses pre-loaded in their system. Easy sale, easy install.

Lol. I was just saying what was available. I very rarely will tell anyone not to get their local major ISP for Internet. We have the witeline option here in Phx, and CL avail... They suck terribly bad. Max out at 1.5 mbps(they may have doubled recently to 3.0, but still). If I were you, I'd enjoy the Comcast sales also... They are the largest, and I can almost guarantee their internet service plays a part in it.

I would agree, it is good business. But it is being offered sooner and with no ETF strings that previous 'up to $200' deals were.

Overall my point is that both sat providers are having issues with retaining subs and/or getting good ones these days. I suspect we may see more liberal offers in the future.

If I were to take a guess at it, when SlingTV takes off, and DTV launches whatever their next evolution will be, I think we will see less and less on the NC offers and more on the retention offers. Especially with the prices rising exponentially, I can see them just wanting to retain longtime customers they will be proud to keep, compared to space fillers that have AEP for $15/month(exaggeration, but I have seen a few accounts that seriously were this low)

I sell this every day. The whole problem is 2 year contracts with the promotional rate for the first 12 months.

We did like 30 comcast orders today and 2 Directv's

No contract on most of the offers from comcast and promotional rates with no strings attached

Used to be satellite was a no brainer. Factor in your Internet and telephone and is no longer a great deal

Problem with Comcast and the other major cable providers, is they force the telephone on you. The double play would work for most, since the cell phone. The telephones just carry far to many taxes. I had one last year for a couple months, the plan was $9.99, the taxes made it $23.99(give or take a dollar), which was ridiculous.

Yeah, the commitment is an issue, though around here we have Mediacom and their promo stuff is a 2 year deal also. And they are less likely to get further discounts from as you go along. They are not easy to deal with, not even close to what D* and E* will do if you call them.

And the push is on for the nearly worthless phone to be part of the picture though you can take it off, the reduction in cost during promos is a bit low. They also charge 'up to $130' for a standard installation using existing cabling. I will say that when they did my internet it was $50 and they didn't charge for the extra wiring they needed to run to get to the access cabling.

They've come a long way since they moved in here. Ran lots of new cable/fiber basically replacing almost all the stuff that was inherited from whoever it was they bought out. They've added lots of HD though not quite as much as D* and E* have, and they now have a TIVO to rent. Previous to that TIVO all the equipment was refurbs bought from other systems, and not very good refurbs either.

I also sell mediacom. The sales process for them stinks. Everyone we sell this to calls back to complain about the high prices charged for install as they do not support spell it out in the sales portal

I know that they use contractors around here for installs, but all sales here is directly with them. No 3rd party sales that I'm aware of. If I can ever get a straight answer from them about what non-promo rate for their 3-fer $140 w/TIVO deal, I might give them a chance.

Right now my bill w/E* is $121, but that is with free SHO/MAX for another couple months and 1/2 price BB@Home, add in the $50/month w/MC for internet on promo, the total is somewhere around $170. So for a year I could save $30/month for a couple months and more for the other 10 months. That is very significant.

How do your customers like the Mediacom TIVO unit? And do you know what the retail pricing actually is?

In response to bundling, Satellite is still a better deal if you are not lazy. If you are lazy you can pay a little less and get less with bundling.

With DISH, Voicepulse for phone, and calling Charter every three months to renew my discount for internet I have no doubt I pay less and get more than if you are bundling with one company. I have with DISH better equipment, more reliable service and the programming I want including off of 118 than I would with cable that so far has not disappointed this winter in too many outages, much better VOIP phone service with many more useful features than with any cable company, and still save on Internet as long as I call to renew discount. In fact since Frontier has mounted a campaign to get people to switch internet service, Charter gives me more of a discount then I ever got before.
In addition the real savings in bundling at least with Charter and FIOS (Brighthouse sometimes) is with their lower tiers and not fastest internet. After promotions, get the higher tiers and faster internet and bundling loses much of it's savings compared to not bundling and using Satellite. (Because unbundled is ridiculously high compared to what I pay with DISH, bundling just brings it down from ridiculous)
