It is a wonderful receiver with many features. So wonderful that I can only find one thing I would change.

With the Geosatpro Micro HD, when in the screen where you select favorite channels, you can preview the channel during the process. This is the only item I find lacking in the Mini HD SE. I find myself having to make a list on paper, then going into the menu to select favorites. On 97W it is a chore. On the Micro HD it is an easy process to view the channel then decide if it is a favorite all on the same menu screen.

Agree, that would definitely be a nice improvement to an already great receiver. Maybe in a future firmware upgrade. (hint hint) :)
I have used more than 10 different receivers over the years. The Amiko HD SE is the worst I have ever come across. It has no redeeming features. It isn't user friendly and not worth any amount of money. The IPTV is slanted towards religious fanatics and is nothing but crap. I imagine the conspiracy fanatic Alex Jones likely owns one. Enough said.

If Alex Jones owns one, thats good enough for me!

You know, i've purchased 6 receivers in the last year, and I'm using the one i feel is the best of them all. The Amiko HDSE. So, i would love to know which ones you think are better? There are some good runner ups which ill be utilizing this summer when i hook up my multiple receiver setup.

I believe EVERYONE stinks at integration. I gave up on on that. Everyone wants to integrate, but they only really care about their main product, and the integration always takes a HIT. I don't use my Blue Ray player to stream IPTV, i use my ROKU. I don't use my Sat Receiver to watch my local media, i use my KODI.

Now, if the A3 ran on a quad CPU, i might run KODI on that, but.... Thats why i didn't bother with an A3. Its an Amiko HDSE with integration of other products.

iBoston that guy was trolling big time. If you look you will see a line through his name, this means he has been banned from the site. Most of his posts were removed, I doubt that guy has ever had one FTA receiver. ;)

The Mini HD SE is by far the best FTA box that I have used since I got into this hobby many years ago.

I researched it carefully before buying. At first I was considering an Amiko A3 and started a thread with pre-purchase questions. Here on SatGuys, I had the privilege of getting answers from both the owner of Amiko America and two Amiko distributors! I ended up getting the HD SE because it seemed like it was a more stable, mature product.

So..... It has not crashed once after 2 months of regular use! And the video quality is excellent!

However, there are some things that could be improved in my opinion. Maybe there are work-arounds somewhere that I am missing, but here they are:

1) I would like to re-map some of the remote control features to different buttons. For example, it does not seem intuitive to me to use 'Page Up' and 'Page Down' for skipping during replay. Instead I would map them to 'Prev' and 'Next'.

2) If you accidentally set the wrong video resolution that your TV won't support, there is no easy fall-back if the screen goes black. Other devices change it temporarily and fall back to the previous after a short timeout if you don't give it an acknowledgement that it worked.

3) Fast forwarding or fast backwards through a recording looks more like a slide show than video. The time gap between displayed frames is too long to allow you to accurately judge where to stop.

4) The Mini's 'Web TV' doesn't work with its pre-programmed channels (the Amiko server times out). I understand that the server had to be re-programmed to prevent misuse of Amiko's TV server bandwidth, but even legitimate Mini HD SE owners are currently locked out.

5) The 'Moving Dish' message takes too long and often appears when it is not necessary. I know that you can hit the 'Exit' button, but it would be nice not having to. There has got to be a better way of determining how long the dish movement will take, perhaps using the motor speed and move distance as parameters.

I'd like to add one more item to N6BY's list.

Coming out of a DVR record, have the receiver return to the satellite menu that was present when the record was initiated instead of going to the all-channels menu.

Must not be possible with ALI based receivers. My S9 does the same. But that would be a HUGE improvement. As is it's a PITB.
Hey, I plugged in the external HDD, that was on the S9, and the HD SE 'sees' and plays all the files there. Shown in there 'proper' location also. Recordings/videos/etc.

A faster startup time would be nice. It takes 25 seconds on mine -- are others taking this long too? By comparison, Windows 7 on my PC takes about 10 seconds.

Also, is there a way to view the current motor position? Even if it just displayed the position it 'thinks' its at, that would be great.

I'm using the 2.0.38 firmware (unsure if others operate the same). If you press the info button twice and then the red button, an info window pops. You will see a listing for Diseqc. If it is a C band satellite it will display the stored Diseqc position number behind the dash. If it is a KU satellite it will display a number and decimal behind the dash, 288.0 for instance. If you subtract that number from 360 you get the satellite you are pointed at via USALS, in this case 360-288=72W.:)

I will also say that I like the Mini HD SE remote way better than the squishy-sticky button one that came with the Geosatpro micro HD.

I love my Geosatpro Mini HD SE having a dish parked on 125° for PBS. I watch that more than anything since our local PBS does not carry all of their services and the HD is spectacular compared to OTA. The only thing is the remote is not very sensitive, practically have to be right on the receiver and the range is very limited. Otherwise it's the best FTA receiver I have owned and it was under $99 to boot!. Looking to get another one to dedicate to PBS Create for my in house distribution system and use one with my HH-120 motor for scanning satellites.

Are you talking about the Amiko Mini HD SE or the GEOSATPro MicroHD? If you are referring to the MicroHD, then yes I agree that its remote control is awful. (I just sold my MicroHD on eBay). The Amiko Mini's remote has much better range, but the mapping of the various functions to remote buttons could be improved, IMO.

If you need a better - more powerful - remote, I suggest that you purchase a Sony RM-VLZ620. This is a learning remote, so you can transfer the codes from your weak remote to the Sony RM-VLZ620. It takes a little time to do this, but you only have to do it once. The codes remain through battery changes. This remote has multiple IR LEDs and will reach WAY BEYOND a 30 foot range. These are available on EBay and other online retailers.

Or even better, do JP1 and be able to use one remote to control EVERYTHING. :)

Sorry, was talking about the Geosat Pro and not the Amiko. Was not paying attention, getting old ya know.. :(

I was using my Mini HD SE connected directly to my TV. A few days ago I tried routing it through my Yamaha RX-V473 AV Receiver. It works, but only if I turn off the AV receiver and turn it back on. None of my other HDMI devices have this problem, just the Mini HD SE.

Is this a known bug with a work-around other than connecting direct to the TV?
