Dish, you must follow suit, Auto Extend

Dude they already do. Hell my dad's old 625 SD DVR extends sports programming by an hour if you so desire.
They had it on DVR's for YEARS now....same with Directv and Tivo ;)
Dish has nothing like it dude.

a feature that automatically extends the recordings of baseball games and other supported live events.

The option comes into play only on programming that supports the Auto Extend feature. “Starting out, the feature will be available on major sporting events including NFL Football, MLB Baseball, NBA Basketball, soccer, NHL Hockey as well as NCAA Men’s Football and Basketball, and NASCAR, and we’ll be rolling it out to a wider range of events over time,” Peter Nush, Comcast Cable’s VP, product management, explained in this blog post, noting that X1 subs can also extend the recording of any content manually via the program’s info page

For those who didn't read (or understand?) the article posted - Dish does nothing like this on any of their boxes. This AUTOMATICALLY extends the recording in 30 minute intervals if the sporting event is still ongoing. So if it runs 5 minutes over, you get 30 minutes longer. If it's 35 minutes over, you get an hour of recording. If it's an 18 inning affair (Yankees had this earlier in the year) that runs 2 hours over, you get all two hours. Dish does not do that.

If I remember correctly, I believe my Direct DVR extended automatically and that was 6 years ago.

Was watching Jon Stewart's last show and noticed the Hopper stopped recording with about 10 minutes of the show left to go. If I wasn't up, I would of missed Bruce Springsteen at the end of the show. I hit record and it continued on.

But that don't matter any longer. My 3 year old Family Room Hopper just died. Lost everything. Black screen. I have already replaced 3 Hoppers In my bedroom.

Agree with Iceberg: I would rather manually insure a 6 HOUR extension on my timer than have someone make a mistake out there in TVLAND, and it DOES happen. I would not depend on anyone but yours truly if I really didn't want to miss the end of a game.

How much Cloud Storage do you get without paying for it? Know nothing about it, just curious.
Good question. Never checked on how much storage. I don't need much storage. But that cloud storage is a hecka of a good idea. I had 4 Hoppers fail. Lost everything. No need to buy a External Hard Drive. Another dang box hanging on the back of your gear.

Dish, I hope you are taking a serious look at the Cloud.

If Dish is looking at it, I really hope they make it an option! Those of us on limited data services wouldn't be very happy seeing it all eaten up by the DVR.

As a non-sports person I'd prefer the option of auto-extend on any program considering
A) a few years ago NBC would purposely shift their programming by three minutes so DVRs would miss the last fun bits on shows like Community.
B) AMC and FX occasionally extend their shows an extra 10 minutes so the same thing can happen

I will admit the AMC and FX issues may have been more of a scheduling conflict on only have two tuners on a 722k.

Must they?? Think they have done just fine in the past, and to anyone that wants more... Manual timer it is... Look a resolution to a simple non issue.

I have a search timer set up for Yankees games with a 90 minute extension. They had a game go over 3 hours late due to rain & extra innings - it would be nice if the machine automatically kept going. Am I going to drop DIsh because X1 has this? No. But to say we're stupid for asking for a similar feature boggles my mind...

I have read thoroughly and can not find any instance of anyone calling anyone else stupid. An alternative option in absence what my be desired, yes. And that is objectionable how?

Not sure where anyone called anyone stupid, but one instance(even a couple) makes me still maintain my claim of it being a non issue. Does it suck... Yes, but if it costs a dime to create that gives them an excuse to raise my bill or contribute to the increase then it is incredibly unreasonable. R&D is not cheap and although a very small percentage of any increase, would likely be a bad move with the decline in sports viewing as of late. Although I completely disagreed with another poster I did see the valid point that the customer base is dwindling with age. Margins are getting less, and just not really a feature that would be suitable. All this while they are working on releasing the newest technology(4k and a few others) is also what makes it unreasonable. Now could I be wrong... Of course.. I was with Netflix and now I sub to Netflix solely because it is on the Hopper. But glad we can discuss this on this open forum as adults. I disagree with the point, made my reasoning and stand behind it. If you would like to counter I am open to listening.
