This is the 1st time I have tried to use it. The video quality is very bad. The speed on both ends is around 6 MBPS. I tried it before I left home using my phone connection and it was fine.
It goes to Auto and if I select HD it just chatters and stumbles.
Any suggestions? It is worthless as is.
I called Dish tech support. I would have gotten better help by asking the greeter at Walmart.

I also tried installing their app on an Apple laptop but all it does is crash.

If it's DSL, then the upload speed is probably only 512kbps, maybe 1mbps.

What upload speed results do you get at www.speedtest.net, testing from your home net?

As others have said it's the upload speed at your residence that is most important, I'm guessing you are not getting anywhere near 6MBPS, that's your download speed. Do you have DSL?
In addition what app did you install on a laptop? There isn't any. The app is for mobile devices, on a laptop you just use the browser and go to the site.

Yes I have DSL on both ends. My download speed is around 6 MBPS at both locations. I don't know what the upload is at the receiver end. I can't test it either as I am not there. As I said in the OP, I did test it before I went away and it worked fine.
What does the bitrate mean on the screen? It is around 600 kbps.

Because your upstream (upload) speed is low.

What company is your DSL from?

You must likely have 6Mbps down and 768K up. Which means you need to upgrade to a faster service if you want a better picture.

Good morning, we are sorry to hear that you are technical issue with our DISH Anywhere feature and would be more than happy to assist you today! May I ask if you are using DISH Anywhere on your desktop or laptop? If so, what browser are you using? Have you tried using more than one browser? Please try to log out then back in to see if the problem persists.

We recommend a downstream bandwidth of 3Mbps or higher for the smoothest playback experience. We also recommend usingGoogle Chrome 38 or above,Mozilla Firefox 33 or above,Microsoft Internet Explorer 10 or above (Windows only),andApple Safari 7 or above (Macintosh only). Any additional information would be appreciated. Thanks!

Receiving end upload speed is of no consequence. Dish specifies the minimum upload speed...800kbps. It's the upload that affects the SLINGING!

I can't check the upload speed while away. It worked in HD before I left on the same laptop running Firefox 35. I even tethered my cell phone to the laptop to be sure it worked before I left. I have DSL from Windsteam. We are very rural and the 6 MBPS is as fast as it gets.
I was assured by Dish that all I needed was a 3MBPS connection to make it work. They said nothing about upload speed.
If upload speed is the problem, it should have failed when I was home.

Now to make matters worse my regular Hopper, where I am now, quit today. Error 530

If you tested this in the same house you are trying to Sling from before you left you didn't really test anything. If your laptop was on the same network as the Hopper the stream isn't really going through the Internet. It is all done over your home LAN.

It was not on the same network. I tethered my phone from it's own internet connection to my laptop.

Then I suppose some of the difference would have to do with different cellular data speeds in different locations. I don't have Dish anymore but slinging from my hopper always worked well for me when I did have it. My home Internet connection is 60Mbps download and 5Mbps upload though.

When you ever get "home", reboot computer, router, modem, everything!!! Then report back.

How can I accurately test it when home. I would have to have someone on another ISP login to my account? My phone speeds are too slow to meet the 3 MBPS requirement even though it seemed to work before I left.

Maybe you can bring your Apple laptop to a wifi location (Starbucks, library....) and go to dishanywhere.com and login. You don't need an app on the laptop. Also, now that you are home, did you do the speed test to see what your upload is?

I am not home yet. I had my ISP test the line and it was 6.5 Down and .75 Up.
Funny you should mention the Apple, it does not work with Dishanywhere. After I load the dish required plugin it just crashes. I tried Safari and FF. As soon as a recording starts it crashes and requires a restart of the OS.

The .75 up is definitely your issue. You will not get a good video at the remote location with speed that low. Interesting about you Apple, It works just fine on my Mac Mini with Safari....

That is a normal ratio of down to up for DSL. At least all of the DSL connections I've seen. Dish says 3.0 down should work. That would be about a .5 up speed.
Are you saying the service does not work with anything but a cable internet speed?
Maybe I am missing something.
Thanx

Don't get hooked on ratios. And, DSL can have higher speeds than you get, or can get. Here is the Dish recommendations:

http://www.mydish.com/support/general-speed-size

As you can see, you are just under the recommendation for SD on a computer/laptop. I had DSL here for a long time. I was only able to get 1.6 down and .6 up. I was totally on copper. My DishAnywhere sucked, out of the house, to put it mildly. It was fine in house because it was on my internal LAN. I finally got Comcast internet and life is now good, anywhere....
