My thoughts are you are doing the right thing,I bought my 4K UHDTV from Best Buy,they offered Free Delivery,Free Setup,Free Electronic Recycling.

Don't know what your viewing preferences are but all 4K UHDTVs are not the same,to checkout reviews on 4K UHDTVs go to www.rtings.com

Good Luck!

Me, I'd go with the Samsung personally. Nice picture. Heard of some LG issues with the 4Ks. Samsung is pretty consistent at all model levels.

S~

I would go with the LG I have less problems with it than Samsung, also I'm not sure BB takes rear projection tv's at least they don't here.

been reading reviews, and i think its gonna be the samsung
will make final decision in store

Congrats, mdram! Enjoy your new toy!

(eventually, you'll pull away long enough to post an update!)

I was just listening to a commercial about some company offering free recycling on all your old electronics.

They specifically mention phones, tablets, laptops, Tv's

Are you serious?

They don't recycle that stuff. They clean it up and resell it on the secondary market.

Like it's really a big problem with an iPhone 5S, 5, 4s and 4 sitting in my desk drawer.

Heck I still got my Apple II GS Somewhere in my office with my 80 MEG, yes 80 MEG hard drive sitting somewhere.

update time, lol

yeah picture is great. i downloaded some 4k stuf from the web and fed via the usb ports on the back

WOW, color, picture in general is phenomenal

only thing is the sound seems to be, meh. underwhelming.

guess they cant fit the big speakers in like the projection screens had

hence im now looking for a new av receiver, and the search is on, thead over there

That was the issue with the Sony 40" Bravia LED LCD for our bedroom. I had a cheap $15 set of computer speakers with subwoofer made by Cybertech (or some other no-name manufacturer that Staples carried). They sound far better than the Sony's little drivers and I couldn't beat the price.

That wouldn't help you with your set-up, but I wouldn't have thought of trying it if I hadn't got sticker-shock with the Sony subwoofer meant for this TV. It would have been almost 50% of the price I paid for the TV!

Thinking of going for a uHD TV set, sort of future-proofing I suppose. Need a TV for the guest house, and the "guests" don't like the 14" CRT I left there... so thinking of sending the 40" Sammy over there so I would have to fill in that big empty spot in my living room with something new.
Now, I can pick up some uHD broadcasts via satellite (C-band) via pci-e card, using a PC system. Don't actually have the card or HTPC setup now but one of these days... Now to go between the PC and screen, what connectivity should I be looking for? All have HDMI, some have DVI, and I think there is another type of higher bandwidth connection as well... think it is labeled "displayport". Is this a common connector?
Was looking at some TVs at one of the big box stores last weekend and I didn't see anything with this port, even though the TVs were labeled as uHD models.
What should I be looking for here?
-C.

hdmi 2.0(2.0a is coming) and hdcp 2.2 are required

arc allows tv to back feed a receiver if you stream on the tv )audio return channel)

Cool!
Does your new Sammy have these inputs(s)? Might be a model I would consider too. Specs on-line don't seem to say too much..

edit: changed outputs to inputs.

outputs?
those are for the input
but this review says
http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/produ...un55ju6500fxza_ju6500_series_55_class_4k.html

2015 Samsung 4K TVs like this JU6500 do support High Efficiency Video Coding, VP9, HDMI 2.0 and HDCP 2.2. The TV has a real refresh rate, as it should, of 60Hz. clear motion is a comprehensive measure of a TV's ability to display images in motion. It is calculated using a panel's Refresh rate, Response time, backlighting and video processing. The refresh rate is the actual number of times in a second that a display hardware updates its buffer. 60 Hz is normal.
Clear Motion Rate is not the same as Refresh rate.

Now is certainly not the time to future-proof. Many TVs on the market today won't survive the introduction of UltraHD Blu-ray early next year absent sufficient HDCP 2.2 support.

Even my first gen UHD has HDMI 2.0/2.2. What it doesn't support is HDR and Full bandwidth HDMI 2.0. UHD BD will certainly play on it minus HDR metadata. This year's Sony and Samsung both support Full HDMI 2.0/HDCP 2.2 with HDR support. I believe Vizio P model will also.

The Vizio Reference Series is the one that will have HDR support.

I visited my local Video Only yesterday and they had only one relatively future-proof model and it was far and away the most expensive piece in its size class (they didn't even have a price tag on it). Samsung employs some fine print that compares their panels to previous panels rather than gamut standards.

The one TV that caught my interest was the Samsung SUHD flat panel (JS850). I'm having a real tough time reconciling curved TVs; I thought curved screens went away with the old front projection TVs in the '70s.

I don't care for the mini connect box.
