That's why I don't connect DiSH to internet. Of course everyone can see where it's going, which is all to streaming, which is its own can of worms.

So the "telescreens" that were everywhere in 1984 playing propaganda whilst spying on those they could see have arrived just a few decades late

On my Sony, and presumably many others, you can turn that feature off.

Doesn't matter. Communicates anyway. So you just block the address at the router. I did that. But when I changed equipment, I never got around to redoing it.

I don't really care if they catch me watching Debbie Does Toledo.
 
I turned all that OFF on my TCL Roku tv sets. It can be done, at least on those. I just re-checked them the other day, and it remains off.
we just bought the mother in law a TCL and it forces you to connect to the internet. it won't finish the setup unless it's connected!!!

now that would be interesting pop up's for porn vids on your set :D. now your tv gives you up to the ole lady :wtf
