About 6 months ago DISH replaced my Hopper due to a problem I was having with it. Several days after I installed the replacement Hopper I started getting Error 311 "Hard Drive Failure". If I unplug the hopper for 5 minutes, plug it back in, power it on, the error goes away. Unfortunately within 3 to 5 days error 311 is back. When I get the error all my recordings under the DVR Tab are gone, but I can watch live TV. Over the last 6 months, I've called DISH Support over and over again but they refuse to replace it. They keep telling me there's nothing wrong with it, and to just unplug it/plug it back in when I get the error. Needless to say, I've become very angry about this problem. What have I got to do to get this problem taken care of :oldmad

It seems as if Dish and TiVo don't replace troublesome HDD's. It seems as if they test them or run some sort of reformatting or HDD fixer software and just stick them in another DVR. Obviously, I don't really know, but I've had similar experience with both Dish and TiVo, and I can't imagine they toss away every HDD that give a customer a problem if they can revive it. It obviously saves them money, but costs them in very upset customers who keep getting one failing HDD after another. Now, a utility like SpinRite might actually "fix" the HDD"s, but SpinRite could take quite some time to do so, so much faster utilities are used but fast often means inferior, such as fast re-formats, but who wants to take the time?

I would be angry too. Please private message me your account or phone number as well as the 4 Digit Security Code you created.

This situation begs the questions....Do you keep you Hopper in an open, well ventilated area? Nothing stacked on top or below?

I switched to dish 35 days ago after having direct tv for 20 years. last night I got the 311 failure and lost my recordings. I NEVER had a failure with directv. Dish will have to do a lot more than a 30$ credit to keep me as a customer. I will drop them and screw the contract take me to court! I would love to Bash them ALL OVER THE INTERNET!

When you are done blowing hard, pull the plug for 15 seconds. Your recordings will likely return.

They won't take you to court. They'll report you to collections. Once reported, you may dispute it, and they'll just hand in the contract that does not allow for breakage because of a simple hardware failure that could not be planned. Then, you can say "I'll sue them." But in reality, nothing will happen there, the second they hand that same contract over, agreeing to binding arbitration. Then in arbitration, they'll make the same case that they offered you more than the dvr fee was worth and a replacement receiver in a timely manner, at which point the agreement will be against you. This is simple, so pounding your chest will do nothing of value. Be upset, sure, but don't make stupid statements. It's unbecoming.

By the way I really don't care if they go to collections I am 53 And don't care if their puny amount drops my credit rating down to 800. I am the customer and can pound my chest and can have expectations like I give my customers. Something is wrong with America when consumers think they have to settle!

Consumers settling has been a fact of this country since its beginning. You want a good representation of this, watch gangs of New York. There is always a big business that will continually control things via large amounts of money. It is basic capitalism. To have an effect, near all customers would have to leave, but since other companies in the same industry practice the same thing, they will just be feeding The monster, unless they choose not to watch tv at all. Basically, good luck elsewhere.

Maybe where you come from But not wher I come from.
