the "I now have a hopper 3 and I have questions" thread

Well it fixed the issue. I don't know which arc I am on. Also the installer said it's his first Hopper 3 install and his first Hopper 3 install with international.

Glad you got it fixed. Do you know which satellites your dish is pointed at?

Just got my Hopper 3 installed yesterday at about 1700 or so, and a couple of questions for the more knowledgeable here:

1) Is there really no way to hide SD channels? I watch ONLY HD and I don't want any SD channels on my guide at all. And before somebody chimes in with the stupid "just create a custom guide" comment, there's over 300 HD channels and music channel options on the "old" Hopper "HD-only" guide; there's no reason I should have to recreate that with 800 or so button pushes on the new UI! :)

2) I can't find my external HD when I hook it up to the Hopper? Where is the menu for EHD management?

3) My guide data is still not populated yet - is anybody else experiencing this issue? I know from experience with my Hopper 1.0 that guide date can sometimes take four or five hour to download, but I have basically only one or two hours wroth of guide data for all channels and the system has been up and running for 18 or so hours.

Thanks!

1) See post 16, and subsequent in this thread.

2) Select DVR/Sources

3) Give a few days. This is normal.

stimpson - many thanks for the quick response; it is greatly appreciated. Re: your answer for #2, no go - "DVR" menu was the first place I thought to go to, but there is no option for "Sources" there. So, it seems as if maybe the Hopper isn't recognizing my EHDs? Also, when I plug the EHD in I don't get any pop-up about "External Hard drive available" like I used to on the Hopper 1.0 (although I do get a pop-up when I unplug the EHD).

It could take it a while to start seeing the HD. When you can make sure all joeys and the hopper are in standby and your downloads will complete. Mine took four hours to download everything before the HD would be see

Thanks, patrick! I was just reading the other thread and saw that same comment about turning off the Joeys - FWIW, it looks like both my Joeys (I got one 4K Joey and one "regular" one) were on all last night after the install, which might explain why I got almost zero guide data even though the Hopper was in stand-by mode.

On a totally different note, just to make sure that my installer didn't do something wrong when he installed my Joeys; my Joey 4K came with a 40.0 remote while my "regular" Joey came with a 42.0 remote. Does that seem correct?
I would have assumed that the 4K Joey would have the newer remote.

Your Joey 2.0 came with the 52.0, and not a 42.0. The 4K Joeys had been ready, and on the shelf ready to deploy for awhile. Before the 52.0 remotes were ready.

yes, sorry about that - I mistyped. I meant to say "52.0" and not "42.0".

I also noticed that each of the three boxes (H3, J4K and J2) needs to be set-up separately - setting changes and and custom guides made on the H3 do not "carry over" to the J4K and the J2. It's almost as if all three boxes were separate units, and less "linked together" than my old H1/J1/J1 set-up. This isn't necessarily a bad thing, but it does require older H1 operators like myself change their mindset a bit about how the new boxes operate.

I'm pretty sure all the Hopper systems are like this. Even though they are integrated with the tuners and DVR they are still their own receivers with personal settings.

Not true. As just one example, on my old H1/J1/J1 system, if one made guide changes on the H1, those changes carried over to the J1s automatically. Now, for example, I created a custom "HD only" guide in the H3, but that guide IS NOT visible in the J4K or the J2!! So, essentially, I have to do three times the work because now I have to set up the same custom guide in all three boxes.

Yup, isn't that nice.... ;) But in reality, it might be a good thing. Wouldn't you want to be able to block Adult content in a Joey that in your kids room but allow it in the Joey that's in your room? I agree, it's PITA, especially programming the favorites lists to be the same so channels are accidentally not displayed and you miss something.

Ya know, I had a Hopper 1 and Joey 1 system until recently when I got an H3 and Joey 2s. The original system was installed on March 17, 2012. That is just for background. I have had favorites on my Hoppers, both of them, since installation. Those favorites never, and I mean never, carried over to the Joey 1s. Why would they? Many people use their Joeys for their own particular use and programming. For example, I have a Sports favorite on my Hopper. My wife who watches TV in a different room, using a Joey, couldn't care less about sports. If she was inclined, and she isn't, I could set up a totally different favorite channels list for her particular tastes.....

Correct - on the Hopper 1 and 2, nothing guide-related is linked. Even on the 622/722/722k they were not and it was the same system/box. At least on the Hopper, there is the option to "copy" the guide settings though.

Hall - where is the option to copy the guide settings on the J2 or J4K? If there is one, I must have missed it.
