It's been a few years but thinking of returning back to Dish -- I'm pretty impressed with the Hopper 3 even compared to my Tivo.

From what I'm seeing, though, the only cost effective way to come back is with the Top 120+ three year deal which is $49.99 plus another $15 for the Hopper 3.

I don't watch any sports, and would be fine if I had my old Dish America package back. But the salesperson on the phone said you can't get that package and I see no mention of it on the website.

Does Dish not have a high-def entry level package that doesn't include much in the way of sports anymore?

FYI -- I did look at the "first year savings" offers, and even the Top 120 package costs more that way than the Top 120+ package does on the three year offer.

I did a Google search for "Dish America package" and this comes up https://www.mydish.com/upgrades/english-packages/dish-america. I am not sure if you have to be grandfathered into it or not. Appears it is still around. Oh yeah, and BTW, the Hopper 3 is great. I have a TiVo Roamio that I use for OTA, and I like it, but I like the Hopper 3 better, of course I had a Hopper w/ Sling, 722, and 922 as well, so I was used to Dish equipment, but the Hopper 3 is the best I've used yet. It's so fast, it needs a governor :) And the 16 tuners are awesome, can't find enough to record.

Looks like they still offer the package, but price it to be just as expensive as the Top 120+ for a new customer as they don't have any "promotional" offers for it. So if you really want it, you could get it -- but they won't market it to a new customer at a promotional rate for the first year or as a three year price lock. :(

Promotional offer is probably just good for the "America's Top" programming packages. The 3 year guarantee is still a good deal, even with the $15 DVR fee for the Hopper 3. If you do decide to go with Dish, I'd be glad to give you a referral, and you could save another $5 per month for 10 months, and I'll get the same. Just send me a PM if you do decide to come back, and both of us can save a little more that way. Good luck what ever you choose.

Thanks -- just have to decide if I want to commit to two years of Pay TV (I "cut the cord" several years ago and have just OTA with a Tivo Premiere lifetime subscription and Netflix right now). There are some shows I'd like to be able to watch on Discovery, Travel Channel, etc. but I'm now having to decide if it's worth $65 a month. I can get a lot of the stuff on iTunes that isn't available via Netflix / Hulu / Amazon, but it's usually $40 a season for a single TV program that way.

I totally understand, it is always nice to not be on a contract, if I could get OTA I would be doing what your doing now.

Have you checked their online only package SlingTV? Does that cover most of the programs you would watch?

To get the best answer about a Satellite subscription contact a DIRT member here. Top 120 (not +) is available for $34.99 a month for 12 months on a two year commitment with no price guarantee but that works out to the same (over two years) as getting Top 120+ with a price guarantee. You would save with the Top 120+ if you stay for the third guaranteed price year. You could ask them about Dish America also.

If Sling TV had a true DVR option I'd get it in a heartbeat. Unfortunately, Live TV with some time shifting options at the whim of the broadcaster does not interest me nearly as much.
