Official - I have a Hopper 3 Thread!

lol! no, tivo were good guys, but even they couldn't crack time-warner. i got to know most of their best techs by their first names. [g] /guy
Got mine in 99 and never had a single issue other then my brain trying to figure out was I live or recorded. Fun times.

Well... there was that whole lifetime subscript that they then claimed was for the box not the person.

the one i loved was the replaytv. anyone remember that? i kept it going like 7 years past when it should have died due to the great community that had hacked nearly every aspect of it. moving to the tivo felt like a huge step down and i missed functions like the ad-skip everywhere to this day.

i've had to reboot twice in two hours today. dish evidently dislikes me putting nascar in a small pip window. luckily there's not much to record yet, but i did lose beach volleyball which i like much more than nascar. [g] /guy

you won't hear me complaining too much. you should have been at the disaster some years back when tivo went from sd to hd menus. it took them two years and perhaps 12 updates to make most of everything work. it was so bad they had to put an option in so people could stay in sd mode until they got all the hd stuff working. so i consider most of this normal--i just hope there are suitable workarounds until they fix these things.

of course, time warner never did get the cable cards working for me with that tivo despite me emailing the ceo and them sending out a swat team of techs. i have a $1000 tivo sitting below my tv now which has really never worked consistently or for long at a time. and i've moved from dfw to a rural area, so no cable company anyway. /guy

Not complaining; just pointing out things that need to be fixed. ;) It will take time but they'll get it done. :)

I have had a Hopper 3 for a month or so now and I'm trying to set up my Harmony Remote to work with it. The Hopper is in a cabinet so I need to locate the IR Detector on the front of the device so I can attach a small IR repeater. Does anyone know where the IR Detector is located on the Hopper 3?

Dead center or should I say just right of the door.

so i have a new question for the group. i have a m43-c1 43" vizio which has five hdmi ports (inputs) and, as you saw in the previous posts, they are not well documented as to specs. but #5 is the 'best' one in that it's 60fps and most likely hmdi 2.0 and hdcp 2.2 (?). and it's the only port that will work with the dish when it's pushing 4k content to the tv.

this is disappointing because i was saving that port for my computer which is 5k and capable of 4k@60fps although my cameras all top out at 4k@30fps for now. and i have not been able to find an affordable hdmi switch that is 4k hdmi2.0 hdcp2.2 yet. what would be nice is if dish would let me plug in a usb stick with my 4k content and show it on the tv although my tv might have this capability on its usb port, but the tv one is usb2 and you have usb3 available on the dish.

so i guess i'm asking is, in absence of a switch, how can i have both dish and my computer use the single hdmi port on the tv which will handle the latest 4k content? i know some might say i should have gotten a better tv, but the vizio has an outstanding picture and, at the time i bought it, it was well under $500 and i wanted the specs to shake out before i bought a higher end one and that decision has proven sound because they are just now coming out with new 'hdr' and 'dolby ?" modes and some of the sets with that are already under $1k.

i was hoping the newest google chromecast might be 4k, but it's only 1080p. that would be one easy way for me to show 4k content from my computer on the tv.

any suggestions welcome. tks, /guy

I have a Vizio M60-C3. I think it has to use HDMI 5 because it's pushing it out at 60hz and that's the only HDMI port to support it.

After the Dish CSRs had no idea what i was talking about, I called Vizio and the CSR I got said that if you put the output from Dish into the 60fps input it will not show 1080i programming. I did it anyhow and could finally see 4K programming and all other stations. I then called back and asked for a supervisor or advanced technical support. I told them what I was told and what actually happened and I was way above their heads. I asked them to add the info I gave them to their knowledge base so all CSRs would have the correct info. They don't have a knowledge base.

Did they speak English or Chinese. If:) Chinese, which dialect?

I have been a Dish user for about 10 years.Today the tech came by to upgrade me to the Hopper 3 with a Joey 2.0. At the beginning of the week I PM'd Dirt team member Tommy and asked him how I could upgrade to the H3.He took his time with me and answered all my questions and then he set it up for me....he was great. All in all the ordering process was painless. So today the installer came and was professional and friendly. The install process went smooth as butter which I am very happy to report. The tech installed a new H3 and a Joey 2.0 and a completely new dish with some new cabling. After the install he made sure he cleaned everything up.So far the H3 is doing fantastic but to soon for a more in depth report.
The only problem is when I tried to connect my external DVR nothing happens. It worked perfect on my old Hopper.Usually there would be a prompt on the screen when plugging it in.Even when I go to the DVR it shows just Prime Time and Rentals but no external DVR....any thought on this? One thing I noticed on the H3 is the Guide...on my older Hopper the background was in color and the H3's guide is basically dark and light gray.I would like to see this be added option.Oh I love the remote...smaller and less buttons

First, give the Hopper a few days to settle in. Then add your EHD and it should see it. Next, you have a few options for your guide background. None of them look anything like the old interface but you get used to it. To change the backgrounds press Home twice on your remote. Now go to Settings and then Guide. Then go to Color Theme and make your changes...

No, the Joey 2 is the standard Joey for use with the Hopper 3. The 4K Joey is an extra and would cost you and extra $50.
