Need help with Sling part of new Hopper 3

I just traded in my old ViP 622 receiver today for a new Hopper 3 with Sling. I'm a pretty self-sufficient technophile, but this Sling business has me stumped. And I'm not finding any documentation anywhere on how to use the Sling capability of a Hopper; everything on Slingbox.com seems specific to the separate boxes, not the capability built into the Hopper line.

I have a Windows 10 2-in-1 (detachable tablet) with the SlingPlayer app installed, and I also downloaded and installed the SlingPlayer Desktop application, and entered my account information into each. When I start the app, it prompts me to "Choose your Slingbox", but offers no choices in the list. When I start the Desktop application, it seems to recognize my Hopper 3 named "Living Room 1", but asks for a password, and I have no idea what that might be.

Can anyone direct me to a source of information that will tell me how to use this Sling capability? (I already understand technically how it works; I just need to know how to use it.) I'd love a manual (PDF, of course), but would watch an instructional video if I have to. Maybe I have to wait a day for something in my account to catch up? Why isn't there even a "quick start guide" on how to use this Sling stuff? I can't be the only person wanting to use this great feature!

Any direction would be greatly appreciated. Sande

You have to log into your Dish account and go to Dish Anywhere from there.

There is a Dish Anywhere app available for iOs, so I'm sure there is one available for Windows. That is what you need.

That app and application is for a real external Slingbox attached to your DVR, not the Hopper built in Slingbox.

When I visited DishAnywhere.com and navigated to download the application for Windows, what it downloaded was SlingplayerDesktop-5.0.0.83.exe.

Go to wherever you get apps. Enter Dish Anywhere and load it. Your tablet is not a Desktop, so to speak, so you need the app, not an .exe file.

My 2-in-1 "tablet" is a full Windows computer, able to run Windows Store apps as well as traditional Windows .EXE applications. The Windows Store (for apps) has no DishAnywhere app for Windows, only for Windows Phone. I cannot find a DishAnywhere app for Windows or .EXE application for Windows anywhere on the Web. Any links (URLs) would be welcome.

Anyone else have any ideas? These ideas have been welcome, but have not taken my anywhere I had not already explored.

I have the SlingplayerDesktop downloaded to my Win 7 desktop and it works perfectly. I also have the Dish Anywhere app on my iPhone. Both work well.

Wait a minute... I just tried this DVR button for the umpteenth time and it finally is showing me some content, where I can choose to "Watch" something.

Is that all this Sling/DishAnywhere is, to watch content in a Web browser window? I wonder why it had so many different names over time.

If this was just installed today it's going to take a little time for everything to settle in and work properly. Give it at least 2 days.

Windows tablets do not work for the DA app, and I'm not 100% but I believe it doesn't work on Windows phones or tablets at all.

Once you've got your video playing double click the screen and it will go to full screen. Double click again to go back. FF and reverse are definitely choppy using dish anywhere. I'll give you that.

I finally got this to work, but it wasn't easy. First, note that my "Windows tablet" is a fully functional 2-in-1 (removable keyboard) computer running Windows 10, both traditional desktop applications and tile-based Windows Store apps. Since the new Edge browser does not support extensions (yet), I use Internet Explorer (IE) 11 in its desktop application (not tiled) version.

When I tried to use dishanywhere.com with IE11, it downloaded and installed a WBsomething.EXE file, but that never made DishAnywhere work, so I uninstalled it. I searched the Internet high and low--there were no other download options offered to IE11.

Then I downloaded and installed Google Chrome. When I opened dishanywhere.com from Chrome, it downloaded and installed a DishAnywheresomething.EXE file. That put a shortcut on my desktop named "DishAnywhere SlingPlayer" (yes, both words are in the name), and when I started it, it put its icon in my system tray. With that loaded, Chrome could fully use DishAnywhere.

So now, with the new DishAnywhere SlingPlayer icon in my system tray, I launched IE11 and returned to dishanywhere.com, and this time it worked perfectly. With this working, I could uninstall Google Chrome, and IE11 continued to work fine.

Since I'm only slinging the Dish content on my home network, not up to the Internet, performance is very good. As the previous poster noted, there is a delay when I use the FF or Back on-screem "buttons", so I have to be careful not to press either too many times.

This is a great solution, but only if Dish will drop that WBsomething.EXE download, and offer IE11 the DishAnywheresomething.EXE download instead, without having to involve Google Chrome. And for goodness sake, clear up the confusion in the DishAnywhere vs. SlingPlayer names!
