Flex Pack & Channel Packs Coming 8/4

The pricing in the first post of this thread has an asterisk next to $34.99 which indicates "additional $10 Business Fee will apply for Public viewing Subscribers."

Can anybody please clarify what a "public viewing subscriber" is?

TIA

I think it is a public viewing area. For example, at my business we have Dish and the area where people wait and the TV is just on, or our workroom, or our collaborative space. They are public areas the TV's are on that many people can view. At least that is how I interpret it.

It usually means a business that's not a bar or a restaurant.

I just did a chat and to get everything we have now (minus the religious, shopping, foreign language and a lot others) it would cost me $10 more a month than what I have now with AT 250 and there would be no music channels. I must have totally misread the Channel Pack Availability chart.

If you have to still "get everything you have now", you don't understand the purpose of these packages.

You have to do a "which channels do I 'need' ?" and look at the offerings.

I'm surprised it's only $10 more.....though some channels still would not be included even with all the add ons.

I think I misstated what I meant. I thought the purpose was to get rid of all the "garbage" channels that have never been watched by anyone in this household and keep what we do watch. Out of the 290 channels we do receive, we watch way less than 100. I thought getting flex was a way of clearing out all what we don't watch but we're paying for anyway.

I really don't understand your confusion/question. If you thought you could pick and choose what you WANT from what you get in a normal package, you thought wrong. You take the packages, or not! Your choice.

we watch way less than 100
Take a list of those 100 channels and mark which are 'important' and which you could (try) and live without. Then see if Flex satisfies you. If not, look at the add'l packages. It's certainly possible that Flex + the add-ons won't be satisfactory for you or others.

For us, AMC is basically our "required" channel (for The Walking Dead). Others we will learn to live without. My wife still pointed out that we 'lost'* Investigation Discovery - there isn't a specific show on there that she loves, mind you. She just likes that genre. The other channel we don't get is Freeform (used to be ABC Family ?) that has (1) show my wife and daughter like. Sorry...

* We had AT120 up until about 1-2 months ago but switched to the Smart Pack, which actually included ID.

The only channels that I am now doing without , that I used to watch is BBC AMERICA and Mtv . Now I watch three shows on that network. Dr. Who, Orphan Black and Grahm Norton show. On Mtv we watched Scream the series and Teen Wolf for my son. I can watch both Dr. Who and Orpan Black on Amazon Prime if I buy the full seasons. So Grahm Norton show is the only thing I will not see any more. I bought the season of Scream and will do the same for Teen Wolf when it comes back.

But All the regular cable channels that I really watch are in the Flex pack. Add Variety pack and you get Freeform for my wife and a few other channels. The news pack gives me the political fix I love and the locals pack is a must have with Primetime anytime and the Hopper. I also have Hbo for $10.00 and the DISH movie pack for $5.00 for the summer. Having no sports and cutting out the extra channels , mostly filler channels has saved me around $45.00 a month over top 250 +HBo+Dish movie pack. This flex pack is perfect for me and my family and what we watch. But if you need the cd music channels or the Sirius Xm channels or all the sports channels , then the Flex pack is not for you. I have been wanting this very idea of small packs like variety, news, heartland, and the flex pack for a number of years ,since I saw the Candian sat systems and how they did business.

This is DISH's first real foray into ala cart. Will it save the day DISH and turn around the high churn that they have been experiencing? Who knows, but it is a good first start. I still say that reducing their many FEES that they have created would help them a lot, in conjunction with the Flex pack . But to attack DISH for doing something positive, like the Flex pack is just stupid. They have at least started the very thing that many subs have been asking for for years. It took a while to come to market, due to the many negotiations with channel provider to allow it in the first place. I think that DISH is a victim of the current collapsing cable /sat model. Their idea of SLING TV sounds good ,but a dvr function is a necessity . No one watches live tv now days unless it is sports or current news on one of the news channels, especially the Millennials that DISH is aiming for with this service.

Now for the attacks on people who own their own receivers and ask for promo credits every 6 months or so. I have ALWAYS owned my receivers and when DISH originally started that was how you came on board. I also own my two cars and have never leased anything. I don't believe in leasing ,because to me it is just a fancy way to pay more. But I have asked for credits because their FEES are to damn high. They along with the ever increasing programming costs have made my bill go north of the $100.00 limit I set for tv years ago. Being able to obtain the credits helped me to keep my bills reasonable. Now with the Flex pack and other packs you add, my bill will still be low under $100.00. So I won't need to keep asking for credits every 6 months. I don't make any apologies for trying to keep my bills at a reasonable level. I do this with all companies I do business with. It's called being smart and business savvy. Charlie sure believes in this principle since he is fighting many battles over this very thing with Tribune , Nfl channel etc.

I really don't understand your confusion/question

My confusion came from this chart. It seemed to be telling me that with Americas Top 250 Flex Pack the only channels I could possibly add were the Outdoor and the Heartland packs. I see my error now but why was the chart even included?

I'm sorry, but I still don't think you understand....there is no "Americas Top 250 Flex Pack" It's JUST the ONE AND ONLY FLEX PACK, and the CHECKED add on as charted. It was to demonstrate how much you would save, OR NOT, with the add ons compared to the regular packages.

I remember it wasn't too long ago I was concerned about keeping my bill below $50. Now that limit is $100. Won't be too long before it climbs to $150.

Oh, boy ... This is too good to be true. It is one of the things I have been asking about for years. This would cut my bill by more than half! I would not lose anything I absolutely could not live without. I am already paying $7/month for superstations I cannot receive. When Flex Pack becomes available, I will be all in!

It's the way they do business, if you call and ask for a credit, and then get it, why wouldn't do it and call again in the future? I often talk about the DISH business model and up to this point discounts/credits have been part of it. I do it with Charter Internet all the time and save alot every year.
