OTHER best reciever for beginner

I would try a linkbox 9000 local has an ota tuner and a satellite tuner in the same box they sell them over at hypermegasat.com. What is your dish setup and what satellites are you wanting to get?

Welcome to Satellite Guys Robb54! :welcome We generally recommend starting with a 90cm (36") dish but you can still get some channels with a 30" too. There are a lot of foreign channels on 97w (Galaxy 19) but some decent English ones as well. Also 95W has a news channel and documentary channel. There are some other ones scattered across the arc. Use Lyngsat.com or Sathint.com to find them. Agree with jeepguy about FreeSat V7. It's a very low cost ($30ish) Chinese receiver that has performed pretty well. Give that a shot and then maybe upgrade to a motorized 90cm or 100cm and another receiver later. We are here to help so feel free to ask any questions. Good luck! :)

Dish size is an important factor (bigger dish is better). If you are willing to spend $250 to $300 I would suggest investing the money in a larger dish like this one http://www.ebay.com/itm/36-Inch-90-cm-Free-To-Air-FTA-Satellite-Dish-HD-LNBF-/122007810338. As far as a receiver the one mentioned earlier is a good starter and word is that in about 6 months or so some new receivers will be coming to market with better features so you may want to wait and invest in one of those. ;)
